sczscoob Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 #130 hasn't been out of the garage much this year so far but it had to go for it's MOT & failed due to excess corrosion around the inside of the rear arches(Both sides) & an advisory was the rear shocker was leaking. So knowing that the rear would need to get stripped out to get the welding work done i thought, to hell with it i'm going to buy myself some Coilovers! The handling has never been as good as the Wagon so it's something i've always wanted to get sorted out, i've still got the Anti-Roll Bars front & rear to purchase & i've still got to get the 4-wheel alignment to get done. I'm going away away offshore tomorrow so that'll be done when i come home again & get the bloody thing re-tested so i can go out & play!!! Here's the rusty bits! Here's a pic of how it sat before And here's how it's sitting now. I'm happy with it but just need to have a play with it, can anyone recommend settings for it?
scooby222 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 looking good Wayne need to have a wee inverness meet once you get it retested i run my bc's at 14 clicks from soft front and 16 from soft rear - but mine is a lardy ass newage lol
sti pretender Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Looking good, with my BC's I started at soft and set them all at about 10 clicks then took it for a drive to see how it felt. Just kept going out until I was happy with the feel. BC on the classic are set up in the 20's but that's for track use.
scouk Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Although I consider modifying limited edition impreza's being the worst thing you can possibly do.. I can understand the coilovers.. For a start it will probably work out cheaper long term in the coilovers rather than the standards suspension.. That, and it sits on them really well! As for setup.. Definately a lot of trail and error to get he sweet spot.. Think mine is set up on the low/mid 20's (would have to check) Rear setup a few clicks stiffer than the front. But I found too much of difference between front and rear and it just doesn't like corners at all.. Start around 16 all round. If your driving it each day on teh same road this helps build up a benchmark then each day tweak it a couple of steps.. First priority should be to get a feel for the ride quality and soften/stiffen the dampers until you find a comfortable level.. After this start playing with the dynamics front and rear. Probably start with putting the rear 4 clicks harder than the front and see how that changes the car in the corners. Little bit of trial and error to get the setup that suits you. Just be careful when testing.. Don't take the bends too fast from day to day becauser even a couple of clicks of change can noticably change the way the car distributes weight across all four wheels and can make it a little unpredictable until you try it If you want a laugh. Find a quiet road with a wide roundabout. stick all 4 corners as hard as they will go and take it on the roundabout to see how it handles.. I couldn't believe how fast it would go round kept squeezing the throttle and it just kept going round faster and faster!!. But ride quality suffered badly.. you really could feel every tiny little bit of tarmac stone on the road..
dan_jess Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Where did you get them from? Good deal? My P1 is badly needing some suspension mods done. Looking at doing much the same as you, coilovers, arb's and geomtery.

I agree with you Al about modifying Ltd Edition Impreza's, but the intention was always to improve the handling with out compromising the look. It handles like a pig compared to the Wagon! So hopefully all the changes to the handlng will be for the better. Thanks for the advice on the settings i'll certainly bee having a play around with it, the BC's came with the rear extenders for the settings aswell. Dave, a meet in Inverness sounds good at some point maybe a wee run over to Ullapool for the day
lewisscoob Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Modding a Ltd Edition Impreza, who would do such a thing! I think its sitting nicely on the BC's Wayne, maybe a little low but if it increases your enjoyment when you get out in it then its got to be a plus.
