thebigfelly Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 picked up some tardis when i was down at the AGM. never used it before but hear its rather good, any pointers on how best to use it? im thinking good clean of the car , usual 2 or 3 buckets - wash, soap, wash again, dry off, then thinking tardis one panel at a time , and polish, or should i polish straight after doing the panel with tardis befor emoving onto the next? not sure if its ok to tardis each panel then go and polish at the end when all panels are done . cheers paul

Normally The Doctor just goes in the door, presses some buttons and stuff and off they go..... Can't tell you how disappointed I was to not find your tales of being whisked through time and space

scouk Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) Tardis has a fair chunk of white spirit and another chunk of Xylene.. Both of which seems like totally the wrong thing to use on paint! But it makes a damn good chemical cleaner and very effective at removign tar spots.. I us a spray bottle to lightly mist hte surface and rub over with a clean cloth particularly around the area wher tar spots are present.. Because of the chemical content of tardis it's a good idea to give hte car another quick wash to try and remove any left over residue that may be present on teh surface! YOu probably don't want to spray the car in white spirit and leave on there any longer than you need Then after the wash go for the polish.. If you wanna be totatally mad in teh nice weather get some claybar stuff and follow this process.. Wash (Preferably with a foam before hand) Tardis (To remove visible tar spots) Wash Claybar (TO remove insighted debris fromt eh paint surface and give it feelins as smooth as glass) Wash (Yep 3rd time to ensure residue from previous step cleared off) Polish Wax/protect 2-3 coats Note usign tardis isn't necessary to do regularly.. As it will strip off any of the wax/protection you had on the car and will need to build it up again.. And good wax protection can help resist tar spots sticking to the surface and regular washing and maybe the odd topup with detailing spray keeps the bodywork feelign slick Edited May 4, 2011 by ScoUK
thebigfelly Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 forgot to ask , will it be ok using it over decals? or will it fade the colour out of them?
scouk Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 SHould be ok as long as your not abrasive and use it lightly.. If it's stickers which dont have a UV protective film on them they may discolour over time.. But for vinyls you shoudl be fine.. AS long as you don't drench them in the stuff! Vinyls wont discolour but they could distort if they are new on teh car and havent settles in yet.. Otherwise shoudl be safe enough.. if in doubt check on a less obvious section first or what I tend to do is use the cloth which you used to wipe down another panel and use that to wipe over the vinyl as it will have a some of the tardis soaked into it and the the tar spots dont' tend to stick to vunyl that well so shouldnt need to be agressive with it.. I havent tried spraying directly onto vinyls to see, but bottom line is to wash it down soon after to avoid any problems.. Just don't go daft and soak the car in it

rig-pig Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 as the man said wash the car then dry, spray a panel with tardis and then wipe off with cloth dont rub hard, repeat if needed, wash car again dry and polish then seal with a wax
