Advice please!

Hey All.

I'm a newbie needing advice. Got a 2007 WRX that I have owned for about 5 months and have had no issues with so far. I want it to stay this way so, since it will be due its 30000mls service soon, need to know the best place to go.

I stay about 20 mins from Grieves Subaru in Falkirk and about 30 mins from Noble at Dalkeith. Will there be much difference in the standard of servicing between the two?

Is there anything I specifically need to ask them to do at the service ie.transfer diff oil, filters etc or do they have a set procedure they follow?

Dont want to sound paranoid about Subaru reliability but just want to look after it!!

Any advice is appeciated.

Car is un-modded except for cat back exhaust.

Thanks.

Hello, em... Meat? Yeah...

Welcome to the club chap, I can't offer any advice as to which garage is best, but I can assure you, that there will probably be a bunch of people queuing up to give you their specially selected opinions on both those garages...

What I can tell you though, is that every garage have a schedule from which to work, Forged by the Subaru gods themselves. :) And that tells them that at so many miles, these parts need changed. In fact, it should tell you in the documentation that you got with the car, the hand book etc, there should be a book with the service schedule, telling you exactly what parts need replaced or checked. I'm pretty certain that 30k is not a massive service, the big one if I recoil, is the 80,000? in which the cam belt needs changed, but your a while away from that yet I think...

Being down in that part of the world, you have plenty of garages to choose from anyway, including a few that are not Subaru Garages, but have a very good reputation within the community, someone can tell you who is the closest to you, (I still can't remember who is next to where down there...) generally, if your car is standard, then you shouldn't have any worries about reliability. :)

Hope some of my insane ramblings are of some help to you mate?

howdy meat, welcome! thing with main dealers is they can tend to follow their checklist to the letter without looking at anything else - and independants tend to be considerably cheaper too.

down your neck of the woods theres hypertech in bonnybridge, RA motorsports and AWD in perth who all specialise in scoobs and have very good reputations.

30k service i have a feeling is a medium one, things like diff oils and spark plugs are down to be changed i think

Thanks for the welcome and the info guys.

Will go to a few places and speak them just to put my mind at ease.

Im worried that the last place that serviced it stuck in any old oil that was lying around as I made the mistake of getting it serviced AFTER I had bought it!!

Heres to trouble free motoring!

Cheers.

Hi and welcome along. Nobles at Dalkeith? Not sure about that, do you mean Penicuik? It's all besides the point, S W Motorsport gets my vote. 5 minutes past Ikea. Just before Nobles in Penicuik. Stevie there will advise you on any aspects of your service and give you top rate work. Very friendly and no nonsense service from him. Better bet than a main dealer in my opion.

Go to a specialist and not the main dealers. With the Right to Repair any garage can service your car and the warranty will not be compromised as long as they follow the schedule. Most will have something like Autodata so they know exactly what to do. The specialist will know your car type inside out and will give you the best possible service that will look after your car as a labour of love - not just a job coming through the door. There are some recommendations here already and you cannot go wrong with a recommendation. If you really want to look after your car then halve the times for replacing the oils, especially if you driver her hard or for very short journies. Never exceed the service intervals and never use anything below the recommended lubricant standards. A standard car will rarely go wrong as Subaru tend to be extremely well built. I have been driving them for many years and have never (yet) had a major component failure. Just one radiator at 135,000 miles on a Legacy and pleny of brake pads and a few discs for my second towing Legacy. The Scoob has the original clutch at 40k miles but I expect that to go Kaput soon as I have modded it and upped the power and torque somewhat. No need to worry - go with the advice and pick either the specialist who is normally cheaper than the main dealer or use the main dealer if you feel they are your best bet.

Penicuik/Dalkeith.......near Edinburger anyway!! Thanks for the geography lesson. Will check out a few places around the area.

Cheers.

No bother. Don't check Dalkeith then! You won't find much. SW's is worth a call to see how you get on 07956119962. 'Edinburger', is pizza shop in the centre of town some where. Remember getting a pizza with mince and tatties on it, just because it was on the menu! Was a bit pushed into that decision by beer.

Used both and both have been very good.

I find the customer service much better at Ian Grieve's than Nobles - seems to depend on Colin's mood at reception at times in my experience at Nobles (sometimes seems more interested in the building firm he is involved in or whatever it was) - but that was a few years ago now.

Both know what they are doing with the cars though.

Ian Grieves has serviced my Blobeye since I bought it from them, unable to fault the quality of the work and the customer service is first rate.

A F Nobles in Penicuik have serviced & repaired my scooby in the past when other lesser garages have dismally let me down!!!!

Just bear that in mind buddy

Yip agreed the standard of service at Nobles is first class, ask for Mike or Iona at reception they deal with all the servicing now, mind and ask for your sidc discount, dont be shy ask for it. :icon_salut:

Of course you mean after they've gotten themselves membership first though yeah ;) After all, it's a paltry £20 and compared to the saving on a service, it'll pay for itself on the first visit!
