05WRX Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I'm hoping to get my sccob mapped within the next few months. Main question is, is the difference very noticeable or is it minor. For example, will you be thinking "holy shit batman that's quick" or will it be "hmmm, bit faster, but nothing exiting". I want to make sure im getting my moneys worth. My car is basically a Prodrive WRX but without the map as yet. Cheers.
ciaranrb5 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Chris Should get you 280bhp (from what 215?) and it makes the car drive a whole lot smoother etc. So I would say it would be very noticeable. May be worth buying a high flow panel filter before you get mapped though
tomwrx08 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 u will find a massive difference in the way it pulls, plus will also get better fuel consumption
BalliSTIc Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Don't forget, max bhp tells you little about torque and driveability. Remap gives much more grunt in midrange (if you want that is) and makes car a lot nippier. YES you would notice a difference, but do it properly and don't try to skimp.
subarucraig Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 i,ve driven various standard scoobs through work and notice big difference between them and mine
lewisscoob Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I was definitley in the "holy shit batman" train of thought after each of my remaps Worth every penny!
05WRX Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 Cheers for the many quick replies. I also have green panel filter too so im guessing that will allow things to breath a bit better. Another quick question, is it worth getting a decat centre section if this improves the power also?
braveheart Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Yes it worth doing the decat i would do the whole system if you can also with a new filter you should see a fantastic diffrence as Balistic says dont scrimp and scrape if i was you i would wait untill i have all the goodies then do a remap you will benifit more than from adding bits here and there good luck with what you are going to do I not 100% but you will need to fit your cat back on for your MOT for emissions im sure some one will correct me if im wrong ..

I think you can get away with fitting a sportscat downpipe and having the rest with no cats, and still pass the MOT. Not going to fully de-cat it. Centre section is the most i would want to do.
beefoss Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Cheers for the many quick replies. I also have green panel filter too so im guessing that will allow things to breath a bit better. Another quick question, is it worth getting a decat centre section if this improves the power also? I have just fitted the afterburner centre de-resonator pipe to my 56-plate WRX and it makes a difference. Power wise I've noticed the turbo seems to spool up a bit quicker, not really a massive increase but enough to add a bigger smirk to my face. Also there's a bit more of a throaty/louder purr of an exhaust note. My car is standard apart from a Pipercross panel filter and P1 backbox. If your like me and can't afford a remap yet then I'd definately recommend replacing the centre resonator pipe to fill your needs Keith
spect Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Just had the Race Rom remap. Previously I have fitted cold air induction, MY08 STI intercooler, Samco air induction hose, decat down pipe, afterburner centre section and Ninja2 tail pipe, wallbro fuel pump and a forge vta dump valve. In theory my hawkeye wrx was 227 bhp and about 234 ft lb of torque. After those mods it pulled a downsite better than before and when put on the dyno was sat at 238 bhp - just 11 up from standard - and about 260 ft lb of torque. Felt better than standard. Now the remap. Two maps on mine - selectable. The normal road map is now 250 bhp and 280 ft lb torque and this is really better than standard. Drives much better. Second map is the full blown race map. 280 bhp and 340 ft lb of torque. Wow. I also have auto blip and flat shift as well as launch control with a much better throttle response time. The difference is astounding, especially when gunning from 40mph up when overtaking. I actually jolted my neck back a bit the first time I tried it and it has probably knocked a fair amount off of the 30-70 time. The whole car is far more responsive both going on throttle and dropping off. I know I will get used to it but that is the max I will get ut of that turbo. Slap in a VF43 or VF48 and you could take it up much much more. In answer to your question: 25% more power and 45% more torque does make a difference in my humble opinion and yes you will notice the difference - honest!
andrew_forrest Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Just to add, the Racerom with maf delete, auto downshift blipping, flat shifting etc etc is only available for 2006 onwards cars. The twin map option is however still available for all the 01-05 cars. Andy
spect Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Sorry Andy, yes I should have said. Damned good system, how you finding it from a business point of view?
C_WRX Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) I've a blob WRX. I went from 225 to 280 to now 336 : to get to 280 it was decatted (sport cat d/p) and panel filter. About 2 weeks later though as the smile lessened I already wanted more, to get to 336 was STi bits (turbo/i/c/injectors). As others have said do as much as you can afford to just now and make it all the more worthwhile. You will notice a difference in how it pulls for sure, but I can't really say it felt mind blowingly quicker, unlike when I went to 336 which even still leaves a smile on my face.
