thebigfelly Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 got the service and mot due this month , and got the audiable screetch warning when braking the other night, it could have been that the brakes were cold maybe , but if not then im wondering if i need the pads or discs replaced ,then whats a decent set i can get on a budget ,obviously id like to get top of the range bad boys , but money is tight and road tax is due also at end of month aswel as a wee holiday to pay for so looking to get sumthing thatl do the job at a decent price. 03 wrx sti type uk with the brembo brakes and 17.5" wheels/alloys atleast sure thats the wheel size, saw someone selling redstuff brake pads for £40 that will fit the brembos but dont know if their any good or not .
kennyuk300 Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Hi mate ,i got Performance Friction Z pads but they were £115 from As Performance .Disc's i got from Godspeed ,grooved £100 .... I would definitely get the best pads you can afford ,hear people talking about the Yellow stuff padsthat they were good .....Have you done a search on here for them ???? Kenny
thebigfelly Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 nah kenny no done any research , only what ive heard bout people saying their getting 6pots and 5pots, and remember a thread somewhere that people discussed certain types and how they found them , but they were very expensive pads if i remember correctly ,
mystery machine Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) I replaced my worn Brembos with another set of Brembos: http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=37_284&products_id=1426 Not the cheapest, but they do feel much better when new than when worn (if that's not stating the obvious!). They don't seem to fade much during fast road driving, but I do sometimes wish they had a little more bite... Edited March 7, 2011 by Mystery Machine
supremeweb Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I use Godspeed disks and pads on the back with godspeed disks and either DS3500 on the front or godspeed kevlar. Cant quibble at the price, the next day delivery or the quality!
marko72 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Godspeed discs with their kevlar pads. Fine for me but maybe better pads if the budget allowed.
phil r Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 another vote for godspeed I have there grooved disks with the middle hub painted black by them so they look good all the time and there kevlar fast road pads about 160 ish all in
marky.t.s Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I'm glad to hear there's others with Godspeed grooved discs and Kevlar pads, unfortunately for me i paired them up with "refurbished" calipers on an exchange basis, that was less than 10 months ago,car has only done a couple of thousand miles since then, but now the pistons are sticking and i even had to force the car to drive forward in the driveway to free them off the discs, not a pretty sound i can tell you,and of course i nearly shot through the garden fence! And to top it all off, after freeing the calipers it is now obvious that the discs are warped, whoop,de frickin doo!
stuarted Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 i'd speak to Alyn at ASP. From personal experience EBC Red and yellow stuff were crap on standard set up with some fast road and and minor track use
Wee Jock Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Litchfield have 20% off Cosworth brake pads prices seem reasonable! http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/shop/content.asp?catalog=100514&inc=product May even try these for myself, cheaper than the Pagid pads I have been running for years, can get a front and back Cosworth set cheaper than the price of front Pagids!
arch Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 You cant go wrong with PF Z rated pads as for discs you get what you pay for. Give Alyn at AS Performance a ring and get some quotes and advice.
thebigfelly Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 What about ferodo ds2500 pads for the front anyone had any experience with these?
arch Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Decent pads as well used them for a season on Subaru 4 pots. Do tend to crumble at the edges but a capable road and occasional track use.
Vir Cotto Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I have DS2500 front and rear, on EBC Turbo Groove disks, they do need a few application before they start biting well(get the heat in), so much less time than the Redstuff I had before. Once "hot" the DS2500 & Redstuff are much the same. The ceramics may wear the disk quicker though and sound like it.
StrikE Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 What about the EBC BLUESTUFF NDX FORMULA RACING BRAKE PADS? Some people say they are not bad!
scooby222 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 il have some ds2500's for sale in the very near future that have only done about 3k miles but will be cheap to you if your interested
Vir Cotto Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Me too, if you want DS2500/FDB986H(Subaru 4 pot) & DS2500/FDB1372H(Subaru 2 pot) only 2000 miles on these. £120 half price, run-in by the book. I'm going to 18" AP front and rear on my WRX. 4 Pot and 2 Pot calipers available soon. £300 totally refurbished.(Stickered, not old embossed)2 year warranty.
thebigfelly Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 was just asking about the fedoro , because the garage im going to for service and mot are doin a deal on then with free fitting and just because i thot i heard the screetching that once but i havent heard it since so its a just incase scenario,
scooby222 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 for me i find them a bit wooden but theres plenty of people who swear by them - in fact i believe the cosworth pads are made by ferodo to cosworths spec woth the standard discs i really liked mintex 144's
pmacFTO Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Godspeed discs are great for the money and the Kevlar pads were fine too but if you can stretch a bit further you can't go wrong with Ferrodo DS2500 pads - had them on my FTO and then my scoob and love them.
