kewe Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Quick question on trackers folks. The cheapest insurance quote I can get states the car must have a tracker fitted and be active otherwise the car will not be covered for theft. As I have just purchased the car I checked through Invoices and found one stating a tracker is fitted and a lifetime subscription paid for by the original car owner. Does anyone know if this will cover me for the tracker being active?
arch Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Most trackers wont transfer the lifetime subscription to the new owner. Worth contacting them and asking otherwise you will be around £11 a month for it.

Phone the tracking company and find out if it is still active, if your car is nicked the ins company will want the details and will check themselves.
kewe Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) The only info on the Invoice says S & F Tracker. It was fitted by Eaglesham Garage in Renfrewshire. How would I know who to contact? I have phoned Eaglesham but heard nothing back yet. Doh! Just realised that's probably Supply and Fit (S&F) and not an actual brand Edited February 10, 2011 by kewe

kewe Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 How do you know it has a lifetime susbscription........... that should tell you "who with"! Nope doesn't say buddy. The invoice just states £260 for the tracker and £325 for Life Time Subscription paid to Eaglesham Garage.

dark Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Why not phone Trafficmaster (was RAC Trackstar) and ask them? Tel 0870 050 3000. They usually just have the car registration as reference. Mark
arch Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 As dark says worth a try, its the most commonly fitted tracker.
jebus82 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 probably was an rac trackstar. there lifetime membership is about £325 an it does not transfer to a new owner. cheers jebus
kewe Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Yeah I'm not holding my breath lol. Just opted for the slightly dearer insurance which does not require a tracker. Probably cheaper overall.

kewe Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Hope you tried go compare and the likes? Yes it was gocompare I got it through. But I was pretty annoyed as Liverpool Victoria always came up about £200 cheaper than anywhere else, quoting £330 fully comp. When filling in all the info on Gocompare I stated it didn't have a tracker fitted at all. The when I went to buy the policy luckily I noticed in the details of the policy it had changed to a tracker being fitted. I went back through the procedure again to make sure I hadn't made the mistake originally on Gocomapre and sure enough the Liverpool Victoria policy changed it again to Tracker fitted!!! When I amended the policy on the Liverpool Victoria webpage to change it to no tracker fitted, it then told me I wouldn't be insured against theft unless a tracker was fitted and activated. Don't know if it's just a general flaw in the program procedure or whether they are at it? Was pretty miffed though as I'd budgeted for getting it at that price
arch Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 why not see what it costs to activate the tracker and what it costs monthly for the tracker. You can then work out if its worth having the tracker activated to get the reduced premium, you might end up paying about the same both ways but have the advantage of an active tracker.
kewe Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 I guess something called impatience got the better of me and didn't fancy having the car sitting outside with no insurance on it. Just too much faffing about when I just wanted to get out and drive the car lol.
jamesm Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I recently asked my insuarnace company what effect not renewing my tracker subscription would have. It made the policy £50 cheaper.
