As a Bugeye wrx owner I can tell you that after a short time the bug bites, you will want it to look better, UK300 is nice as standard but suspension changes are needed, then you want more power so you look for sti upgrades,

Cut the story short best off to start with an sti if you have the slightest thought of any modification. It will help a lot in the future for mods etc..

Look out for a prodrive edition bugeye as they seem sweet..

Well I weighed everything up and tonight I went for a totally Standard 53 Plate WRX saloon in WR Blue.

I somehow like the idea of putting your own little touches to a car - almost a hobby.

And the thought of having something that was the finished article didn't really appeal.

Also I managed to get one in the price bracket I was looking for without having to add any finance or loans etc

so I feel a bit more comfortable with that.

Thanks again for all the help and advice on here - much appreciated :icon_pray:

Congrats on the purchase, looking good.

Did you fit those alloys then? (you said you bought it 'totally standard').

FWIW, if it doesn't already have an uprated rear ARB, then that's a not-too-expensive mod that'll cheer the handling up considerably :occasion14:

Thanks MM, no the wheels are the only mod I forgot to mention and they were already on the car. Only a couple of months old with new tyres all round.

What's the ARB do then? Gees so much to learn

looks like a cracking example :)

arb's reduce the side to side movement of the suspension as i understand it, the thicker the bar the more planted the rear - though this does can it a bit more lively in extreme cornering :icon_joker:

first things first though - in order

1 - drive til you run out of fuel money

2 - become a full member - though you shouldve done that first as it gets you insurance discount from keith michaels!

3 - track down an exhaust, backbox or catback to release the burble

4 - get yourself along to your nearest monthly meet

and of course, grin grin grin :D

Sounds like excellent advice.

So at least I've completed number 1 then lol.

No 2 to do when I get paid again

No 3 My brother has a Prodrive Backbox he removed from his, don't want anything too loud.

No 4 <_<

An anti-roll bar reduces body roll on an axle - your car has one front and rear. Some chat about uprated rear ARBs here:

As standard, Impreza WRXes/STIs are quick cars with lots of grip, but the handling doesn't quite live up to the rest of the package, IMO. To improve things, I began by replacing the springs/struts (big improvement, but big cost!) and making a couple of other handling tweaks. More recently I had an uprated ARB fitted, but in hindsight that should've been the first thing to do, especially as it only costs about £160 including VAT and fitting for a nice Whiteline adjustable bar... a no-brainer ;)

Such a nice car to drive quickly now that the handling is sorted!

Nae bother mate! I've never actually used the Edinburgh guy, but have had good results with Neil (Fife & Lothians) – he's taken 5 and 1/2 dings out of my car. The "1/2" was one that he couldn't quite reach properly, but he was at it for ages trying - you can barely see it now, mind.
