soundie Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Hi all, I'm going along to the ring at the end of november, just wondered if anyone has any wisdom to pass on, must do's and def don'ts.. My main concern is not getting past the decibel meter, so I was hoping to change my headers to equal length before going. 1. Would I need to remap after changing the headers? 2. where can I borrow / buy some equal length headers? borrowing would be amazing - I'm kinda hoping someones got some lying around after being disappointed with the burble-less-ness ps. not allowed cameras on the ring anymore - booooooooooooooo!
soundie Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 only if they can see the cameras.... mm yeah, instead of the big suction mount and camcorder, I might do the iphone thing. discreet.
braveheart Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Im Jelous im not going expensive month for me, I wish you all the best and go let it rip around the Ring I've not heard many people being knocked back for the noise limit, suppose long way to be knocked back, Chris give SW a fone he might have something lying around the work shop.. fingers crossed for you..
Gumball Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Mate the boys from CADs went over in 2006 with some seriously loud cars. You may have a fair bit of luck posting up in their section of SIDC. Chris
paul555sti Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Why not just get a bung for your exhaust and try and get on with out it and if you fail stick the bung in! Also would it not be easier and less hassle to change the back box for a quieter one rather than the headers?
murtayamartin Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 should be fine db wise as long as not stupid loud and behave in car park, keep to right and dont race-november can be glorious sunshine/rain/snow or all3 lol martin
terzo neil Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 was at the ring a monrth ago, no noise issues better play the track on playstation or like, dont do what i did, went out with no knowledge of layout but much fun anyhow

I'll be letting rip, maybe 3rd lap round 1st one a recce, 2nd one, just to make sure, then 3rd lap a hot one Cheers will give him a bell, can only ask, eh. Mate the boys from CADs went over in 2006 with some seriously loud cars. You may have a fair bit of luck posting up in their section of SIDC. Chris Cheshire and district, ah! I've never even looked in there lol. i'll have a nosey, thanks mate. Why not just get a bung for your exhaust and try and get on with out it and if you fail stick the bung in! Also would it not be easier and less hassle to change the back box for a quieter one rather than the headers? bung is a good idea, but i've been thinking about headers for a while, just to quieten down a wee bit anyway (I KNOW its Sacrilege but, hey.. wee bit more power too though.. should be fine db wise as long as not stupid loud and behave in car park, keep to right and dont race-november can be glorious sunshine/rain/snow or all3 lol martin The guy whose organising my trip (Dino) says it also comes down to if the marshalls think you're a nice guy too, so yeah, no fooling around in the car park etc.. probably be ok, big polite smiles all round. just crossing fingers for my days, just hope its not pis$n down so i'm forced to go round like a granny. snow would definately suck the worst. was at the ring a monrth ago, no noise issues better play the track on playstation or like, dont do what i did, went out with no knowledge of layout but much fun anyhow haha, i've been doing that exact thing, with a 330bhp sti too same like mine although I probably won't learn the nuances of every corner, got a fair Idea of what sector I'm on etc. and when there are serious braking points. manages a 7:14 in a McMerc, which was frightening don't race is a good tip. certainly not timing myself anyway.. but would mind a friendly battle with another car or two at some point. Thats if there will be ANY cars at all there in november! good stuff keep it comin! what about nightlife etc, any touristy type stuff thats worth a look? Cheers all, Chris.
mctwistuk Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 steak on a stone is a must. ride in the ring taxi is a must. Went in April this year and had a great time. No matter how many laps you do on th xbox/playstation nothing will prepare you for the track. Fill up at dover then if you can make it all the way to the ring then fill up with the BP100 fuel you get at the petrol station right next to the ring.

Thanks mate, steak on a stone definately sounds like my sort of thing Ring taxi? is that the one driven by sabine, in the bmw csl? how much is that? dino tells me there 102 ron somewhere local too! I'm definately hold off and get some local good stuff, but taking NF in case I get caught short lol.
soundie Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 How did everyone find their oil temps going round the ring?? I don't have a cooler, but I do have an oil temp gauge so I suppose I'll have to be backing off a wee bit for some sectors (if temps get to 110oC i'm told).. or what? Thanks again, Chris.
paul555sti Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 The steak on a stone is available over here now, have a look on google! My mate has four sets and we have used them at work a few times
