scooby222 Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 has anyone on here got or used compbrake, stoptech or hi-spec brake kits? looking to upgrade to 6 pot calipers and wondered about the inbetweeners - ie k sport as the cheapest, ap's most expensive have already got ds2500's, godspeed 2 piece discs, braided hoses and 5.1 so i think bigger calipers is the way forward - cars an 05 sti by the way
kad 16v Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) cant really comment about the above, ap from what i have heard are a good conversion. im a little bit influenced by this but i am going for a set of KAD 6 pots (some may say the dark horse). i have got a set of their 6 pots on my old mini and they are spot on........ i dont work for them i just own a full spec kad racing mini. here is their website Link to KAD take a look through the site, look at some of their history. they make brakes for most applications, TVR, Porsche most jap cars pretty much anything. see if they take your fancy and give them a bell, tell them Ed, the lad with daves old soft top mini sent you (i dont get commision its just they like to know how you found out about them) Edited October 20, 2010 by kad 16v
scooby222 Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 cheers Ed, dropped them an email namechecking you
ciaranrb5 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 You should add more power to justify bigger brakes. Braking is for wimps although I do love my 6 pot Ap's all the same

I have compbrakes on mines and also on the rear 05 sti modified to fit by SW. Also fitted a brake stopper seems to do the JOB however would maby change my pads as when giving it beans they do warm up a bit quickly.. Edited October 21, 2010 by braveheart

They were already on the car Im re-fitting some 2 pots for the excitement
scoobyterzo3 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) running compbrake 6 pots on mine and never had a issue yet, they have no anti rattle but so far this hasn't been a issue, my only problem is it nose dives too much now under heavy breaking so i need to uprate the back ones (which will be this winter)..........i have them on a road car so more than enough for me and i'm happy with them and the price, they also fitted behind my rb5 wheels and the brembos didn't..... bobbyc Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 If I have to end up stripping everything off the GB Dave the K-sport 8 pots, discs & pads will be up for grabs, they havn't covered a lot of miles

euan_r Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 full aps all the way. cheaper kits wont cut it with all year round use up here, lack of dust seals etc. avoid made up kits as well, galvonic corrosion isnt nice. i am in process of securing 4 pot aps, more pots just means more even spread of pad pressure, if done right, no more.

Not completely right Euan, if you get proper AP8 pots like the ones I have worked on, then they should have 4 brake pads per caliper, and this gives pads that bite harder due to each pad having a "biting" edge. Just the cost of these style of calipers are very prohibitive.
