thebigfelly Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 starting to have second thoughts about this bizar sound being wind and now thinking it could be bearings in the turbo if im correct , though never had a turbo so just guesing , seems when i get close or above the 100mph quiet empty roads ofcourse thats when it starts , fine the rest of the time through the rev range and through all the gears , but just at the drivers side either behind the speed area roughly or towards the right wing (closer to the driver than the front of the car )is where the sound seems to come from, could do with someone else taking her for a wee spin and seeing wha they think, only thing i could possibley think is its the turbo spining that fast that the bearing cant cope with those speed but is fine in the lower range of speed, but im sure when i brought this up before months and months ago someone said some of the models make a sound at higher speed with the wind passing through/over the body work. ( kinda like the squeeky break thing when reversing ...only some models do it.) so anyone close by like 30 - 40 min drive fancy giving me their opinion tonight maybe the mora? p.s doesnt seem to affect preformance or handling .. just realy realy realy anoying
Alastair Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 The turbo is rev related, so you should get the same problem in a lower gear at the same revs if it is the turbo....

patsy Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I sometimes get a whine from outside the windscreen area. As mentioned above, only when I'm doing 50mph and have a 50+ mph wind towards me!!!! I've put it down to something to do with the windscreen seal or wiper arms, with the air that's passing over them. To be honest, mine doesn't always do it in the 3 digit speeds, sometimes it's quiet until near 60mph plus 80mph head wind! It's defo nothing mechanical. I've heard of someone else's doing this too. Nothing to worry about I think? Your car is a newage as mine is? Mines is a bugeye. I'm based in Edinburgh near the fort if you need a (novice) second opinion. Ryan
scoobywho Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Sounds like you need to tape up the vent next to the drivers door like i did
scooby222 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 newages arent so bad but there is the old speed warning system - also known as the frameless windows peeling away from the seals giving a high pitched whistle usually over 130ish before but if youve had the window down and havent opened and closed the door it happens lower down - just a possibility
subarucraig Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 i thought you were needing tiles laid or a new carpet fitted
boab type ra Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 defo a wind noise wouldn`t worry about it could you years to find it when i worked at verve it was a comon fault with the wiper arms, my scoob does it to at very high speed i had a whistle noise goes away when the wipers are on.

hosstheboss Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Mine does exactly the same - wind noise caused by the frameless doors i've been told - crank up the stereo and forget about it !!
