macraezy Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Hi.. just got myself a 52 plate wrx sti and looking to upgrade the door mounted speakers etc.. anyone out there with ideas of what will slot in same space without major mod?
davey l wrx Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Should be the same as the Bugeye i have. I swapped the naff standard speakers for a set of Vibe's K-Series SE60 (Halfrauds for about £60 i think). The drivers are 6'' and fit no problem with a set of Corsa 3 spacers from Halfrauds (vauxhall have to be good for something), if you don't use spacers the windows won't go down all the way. All that was needed was a self tapper to hold the spacer in place as the original speakers only have 3 screws. The tweeters fit no problem and the crossover fits into the door card at the back behind the storage pocket, mine are attached using velcro stips. The sound quality is like night and day from the original speakers. Hope that helps...
wrxmania Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) I fitted similar when I had my 03WRX - Corsa spacers and fitted really nice speaker - place in Bathgate (Audio Place - can't remember the name) fitted them, with head unit, dynamat and new cabling etc. ABSOLUTELY essential to change the head unit if you have not already got a different one. The output of the standard Kenwood thing is just awful so can't drive the speakers. Worth getting Dynamat in the doors too to stop vibration. Valuable mod done by many. Although if you have an outrageous exhaust, don't bother lol as I found out... Brian Edited September 30, 2010 by WRXMANIA

marko72 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Hi fellas. Is this upgrade as simple as just replacing the door speakers? Dont need to get an amp, or new head unit altogether? Certainly would like an improvement in the audio department. Is it worth it just replacing the door speakers. What all do I need to get speaker wise for this? Its a bug wrx. Many thanks chaps.

Yeah, just slot the new speakers in, it's all i've done. Still got the original headunit and my sub isn't wired up yet but the new speakers made a big difference in the sound.Check out post 2 in this thread, 6'' speakers will fit with spacers.
scooby222 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 as brian said, the standard fare is just rubbish all round! the guys i use said they experimented with swapping all the different parts out and head unit and speakers both needed replacing to be worthwhile - doesnt need to be a fancy or expensive headunit,i beleive the standards something like 4x20w? which is drastically underpowered!
macraezy Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 thanks guys! much appreciated! new double din kenwood unit fitted, speakers to follow when get 5 mins spare
