Sleiper Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) put car in to SW Motorsport for the colder grade plugs and decat downpipe to be fitted then straight down to Andy Forrest on friday for remap,(Great Fun) car made 360bhp & 353lbft. torque, i'm well chuffed! However Sat dropped Leslie off at work went for a wee blast down the road to GP Autos in dalkeith and the fun began, had a rattly heatshield for few weeks but didnt think it was that serious! but it was. OH ****, i said as the steering locked on a tight left hander (thats the mild toned down version for the post by the way). So i stopped chain smoked a few fags to calm my nerves and set off on my way home. Lost confidence in it since then so just pottered around until i could get up to SW Motorsport so Steve could have a look at it and found that the front of uppipe heatshield had seperated from back part and was rattling around at the steering rack causing it to lock up the steering and vibrate occasionally, Steve said he had never seen this before it was a first! So he dropped what he was doing put it on ramp and ten minutes later all is fine again! Big Thanks to SW Motorsport!!! Top Man, i can now go and play!!!! Edited September 20, 2010 by Sleiper
scooby222 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 good result with the remap and top marks to steve for sorting the heatshield on the spot - did you ditch your undies when you stopped for the chainsmoke too? lucky escape, never heard of this before either - off to check mine now....
Sleiper Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 did you ditch your undies when you stopped for the chainsmoke too? Haha yes you could say that probably the most scary moment since i nearly skied off a cliff in france many years ago!!

I've read a post about this happening before, was a while ago, cant remember which year/model it happened to. Great figures and a lucky escape with the steering locking up Rich
sti pretender Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Might have been me Rich. Happened to me on the newage couple of years ago, jammed the steering as I turned left. Wasn't going fast but still got the heart racing. Edited September 20, 2010 by STI Pretender
C_WRX Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Reply to paragraph 1 - nice one, excellent figures made, enjoy. Reply to paragraph 2 - sounds like well saved in the situation, nightmare scenario, but on the bright side you'll be half a stone lighter after it . Could've been a lot worse !! Reply to paragraph 3 - nice one that it's okay now and you can get back to the enjoy bit.

StewartyBoy Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Pretty good figures there. What spec/supported mods do you have to reach that number?
subarucraig Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Your incident souded like a scary moment its good to hear that theres people like steve about to help you
sti pretender Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 howdy long time how are you?How did you remedy it, did you heatwrap or just disguard it? Not bad, was going to come over and talk to you and Lesley at the Wheel meet but never got a chance. Ian Greive gave me the option of getting them replaced or removed, having it happen once I opted to get them removed, temp wise I was told it wouldn't make a massive difference to underbonnet temperatures so never wrapped the up-pipe. Might be worth it when going down the modding route but as my car is only PPP I didn't bother. They did a geometry setup to check steering was alright. Wasn't until I took the car to Kenny Brown's in Hillington a while later that I found out I have a very slight curve in the rack (had to force the steering to make the turn), doesn't affect the car at all just has to be factored in when the setup is done.
