Some Real Scrotes Out There.

I would just like to thank the scrote who drove his van into my wifes car (a Forrester) and then drove off without stopping. This happened 3 days ago and was only discovered this morning when she went out to the car to go to an important meeting in Cumbria. On the plus side, there was a nice couple walking by who witnessed the incident and so did the decent thing, took the reg number and left us a note under the windscreen wiper leaving the other vehicles details as well as their own details so we contact them if needs be.

I have already been to the police who took the initial report and will get someone to come round to have a look at the damage and take the full statement, maybe even taking paint samples, apparently. I have never been in this situation before so I trust they will do all this and fully investigate as surely its a case of leaving the scene of the accident etc.

Does anyone know of a way for us to track the reg number of the other vehicle, NOT for me to act as a vigilante, but just to confirm the details are correct etc.

If you have the reg you can just try an insurance quote and type in the plate and it will tell you what make and model the van is. Unsure if you can find out who the owner is??

I was able to find, through various web searches, that the reg is correct for a big white van, and that it is currently insured, so that has satisfied my suspicions, I will now let the Police do their stuff.

The fact that the driver left the scene isn't necessarily bad news for you - as long as they're insured. The important point is that you have a witness to the crash.

On four occasions I have been hit by a third party who was at fault. On three occasions I had no witnesses and the claims took between 4-18 months to settle (all in my favour, gladly). On the occasion where I did have a witness, the claim was resolved within two weeks. Makes all the difference!

The fact that, in your case, the third party isn't owning-up may drag things out a little longer than if they'd lodged a claim - but your witnesses should ensure that things are settled in your favour.

If things don't go as planned and everything is taking too long try these guys www.helphire.co.uk . I used them when a third party hit my car a few years ago. They paid for my car to get fixed, gave me a hire car to use while the repair was being done and i had my car back within a week. They did all the dirty work and recovered their costs with the other persons insurance. All for the cost of £10!! May be worth a look.

askmid.com allows you to check your own vehicle is insured just put that reg in and see what happens

I spotted a crease on my wifes wing. so looked closer. Some ***** has reversed into her front end corner, scratching the wing, breaking the bumper and creasing the wing.

People are such dicks.
