Coming To Raf Lakenheath, Looking For Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone, I am writing this from the US but I will be moving to the Lakenheath area, come August.

I'm a fellow Subaru lover, I've owned a 2004 STi w/575 AWHP, but had my son so I sold it to get rid of the payments. I then picked up a very rare(in the US) JDM 1995 STi Type RA for alittle while and sold that. Currently just have the wife's car 2005 Legacy.

When I get there I am looking to pick up a 1994-2000 STi(impreza/wagon/forester) so I am asking for a recomendation on where to go/look for that when the time comes.

Also any recommendations on where to live that's about 30mins or less from Lakenheath is also something I'm looking for.

Thanks

also here are my former rides

Hello and welcome fella,

You will find that your choices in Impreza are much more varied in the UK, we have a very broad JDM import market.

My Ver 3 (MY97) WRX Sti has the same wheels as your RA :icon_salut:

I am sure that you will get some advice on what and where to look for your Impreza.

Cheers Iain

Hi 4WaLLs

To buy a Subaru, you could start on the for sale board here.

Also have a look at Pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/

And Scoobynet http://bbs.scoobynet.com/market-place-342/

As for where to live, depends on what you are after I live in Red Lodge which is about 20mins from the base. A lot of USAF guys from Mildenhall live here as well.

Not fond of Lakenheath itself or Brandon for that matter. Mildenhall isn't too bad though, but depends what you are after, shops, schools etc.

Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Mark

PS loving the RA. can't believe you managed to get it registered over in the US.

Thanks for the info Mark, I've looked here but didn't find much that seemed to be recent even though I wouldn't really officially be looking to buy until late August so I will remember those sites when the time comes.

As far as living needs I am looking for a safe area that has good access to travel(airport/train) Europe, but also still has plenty to offer locally.

Ely would be a good bet to set up home. It has plenty of travel links by train to London and the north. Loads of shops, good schools (Apparently, I don't have kids so no first hand knowledge) and is a lovely nice safe place to live. You're also not far from the M11 which will get you to Stanstead airport quickly enough.

Or at about the same distance but to the East is Thetford, but I've known a few people who lived there and they weren't that impressed.

P.S. Start saving your pennies, petrol prices might come as a bit of a shock. Currently £1.20 a litre for 95RON or £1.27 for V-Power (99RON). I'll let you do the conversion to American gallons and dollars. :D
