Releasing More Burble

Recommended Posts

Would like my Impreza to be just a tad louder. Currently have a decat uppipe, standard downpipe with cat, decat 2nd pipe, deresonated centre and backbox, all Hayward and Scott. Since firstly putting on the centre and backbox it was louder but since decatting it has more of that lovely burble but maybe not actually much louder. So I am thinking I would like to be a bit louder. So what are my options?

Would I get there just by replacing the backbox with something else? Or do I need to decat completely? Wouldnt want to replace the whole system.

I have looked on ya' tube as some might suggest but most clips arent that great.

So any thoughts, suggestions, bring it on. :)

Replace the standard downpipe regardless of what noise change you'd get and get a sports cat one or complete decat (although complete decat may not pass an MOT on emissons), then get the car remapped.

Think, not 100% sure, the H&S backboxes are quiet but lot of expensive to change just for little more noise.

thats weird, we replaced just the backbox on our STI with a H&S and its loud as fu...

I can here the mrs coming along our road from about 200m away LOL

It's not actually that loud in the car tho.

Its mapped by andy f and after advice from Hypertech and andy the downpipe cat was left on. If and when I go for the next stage it will be changed. I had read somewhere that fully decatting made the car alot louder. Yes your right, H & S not cheap but have been considering a larger tailpipe to change the look so that might be the way forward at the mo. :)

Mines fine for in the car with stereo going. I think what I am meaning is that i want to be ALOT louder lol. Well I sometimes hear a scooby rumble coming but no car, then it appears. I feel my car isnt as loud as that. Mind you, some of my pals who arent into cars think its bloomin loud.

Which backbox did you get? I have the 3.5 inch rolled tailpipe, might change it for the jap style one. :)

Do you have a decat/sports cat fitted?

how are the godspeed brakes by the way? :)

ours is just straight one not angled like the jap one, not sure what size the tailpipe is think its the same as the jap one.

I have a Scoobyworld Ninja sportscats cat downpipe fitted. 100cell which understand is better than e.g. the prodrive which has 200cell. Yes complete decat is best route but willing to take slight drop in power for less MOT hassle.

Wouldn't change just this then pay for another remap, as you say if there's a next stage include this.

I haven't really used the car enough since changing the brakes to comment properly (only about 150miles), to begin with was a little worried as felt worse but think they're getting there slowly but surely, not thinking about bedding in any quick way just using them as normal. Noticed immediately that the pistons worked properly !! :(

I have a full 3" decat downpipe with Nur Spec R system and it's feckin loud in fact with the bung out i'd go as far as to say too feckin loud but it sounds absoloutely awsome not for the faint hearted lol, however I'm running it with the bung fitted at present to try and avoid unwanted attention lol but it's still pretty loud and certainly a lot louder than my H&S that i had previously although it was not decatted.

I have a fully de catted turbo back Hayward and Scott (3") and de catted STi upipe ( :) for track use only obviously) and it's a nice sound. I'll take a wee vid clip for you and send you it if you want to hear how it sounds mate.

Why not take a trip to Meercat or C and C, that way you can get them to make it to whatever noise specification you want.

Probably a cheaper option than the H and S route too :)

Well I have finally released more burble that i wanted lol, fitted an Afterburner Vortex backbox ( thanks Double Zero) so I have a nice louder sound coming out of my rear. :). It also makes nice sound effects on low revs etc. Would post a pic but Im sure everyone knows what one looks like. I wasnt a fan of that look before but its grown on me and sounds great, so happy daze

Cheers also to Hypertech.
