empty_heed Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 i've got a blitz nur spec exhaust and mot time is coming. thinking of getting a centre section with sports cat if possible so i can hopefully pass an mot and tone down the burble a bit. it's a bit anti social for talking to your passenger as much as i love the noissy burble. can i get a section with a built in sports cat? it's frying my brain a bit as need the mot pass for highland fling and exhaust is my only issue i'd say. some pics below.
bobbyc Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 (edited) All you need Keira is the short sports cat pipe coming directly from the turbo Edited March 16, 2010 by bobbyc
thefastone Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Pretty much what bobby said... I I'm sure there are some places that have Spare cats lying about... Don't know what they are for, certainly don't think they are for MOT porpoises.... Know what I mean... Think is, if you are fitting a cat permanently, then do you not need to have the car remapped...? I certainly wouldn't change something like that without having it remapped? or perhaps thats Paranoia talking...?
thefastone Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Oh, also, I'm sure that there is a bung for them...
empty_heed Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 Dale she has already got a bung in it Kenny bung is oot at the mo. it's a bitch getting the bung back in, it's been out since crail on sunday. i hate the fight trying to get it in and i've lost my ten mil spanner. i don't know if it'd need rempapped again dale, will i ? i just want an mot getting winscreen repaired or replaced today too.
C_WRX Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Question rather than a statement : Would it pass if you put a cat back on for MOT then swapped back when done ? Sure such a short time driving off boost wouldn't affect anything - just a pain swapping. I have a sportscat dp on so don't have the MOT issue, but plenty of folk with full decat manage. Does the noise lessen adding a cat ?
badbaz Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 That's the only way to do it Colin, unless, as you say, you have a sports cat. The cat does affect the noise.
ciaranrb5 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 You not have the standards downpipe to fit for mot day? Or if you can find a friendly garage it may pass? I tested mine a while ago to see what it was. Before i was mapped and it was 780 the legal limit being 250. Never tested it since mapping but recon it probably is lower due to running a bit better.
thefastone Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Nah, if your swapping out for an MOT, then you wouldn't need to get it mapped for that, just drive off boost that's all...
scoobykev Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 The downpipe is a pain to swap over just to swap back again after mot. I have heard of cars passing with just a standard catted centre section fitted if they're lucky. Best bet would be if anybody in your area has a double catted centre section made up you could borrow, doddle to swap over and back again after mot.
thefastone Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Oh and make sure that the car is very warm before the MOT too, as the cats work best when they are hot...
dipsy Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 (edited) All you need Keira is the short sports cat pipe coming directly from the turbo Thats a newage wrx exhaust system .classic is only three piece system downpipe, center, back box.Its either refit the catted downpipe or like every body has mentioned a made up double catted centre section for mot Edited March 16, 2010 by Dipsy
empty_heed Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 cheers for all your advice got 3 weeks to sum up my options.
sczscoob Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I was getting a bit peed off swapping my de-cat round on the Wagon for it's MOT. So I bought a Japspeed sports cat & some heat wrap for the Mcrae, it also is a Blitz exhaust. Passed it's MOT last week with flying colours & I've kept all the pops & bangs!! I thought they would've dissapeared with the sports cat.

Don't know mate, they've always been there & i can't make them go away! No i haven't had it remapped, i was told that the standard ECU couldn't be mapped. Once headers, de-cat & induction is done then a different ecu would be required. I'm not to sure about ECU's to be honest but i did ask the question. It's totally standard apart from the exhaust. As for pops & bangs, don't know mate, they've always been there & i can't make them go away!

I just bolted bits on and screwed the boost up . Very agricultural but it works well.
scooby222 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 i take it it is a full turbo back exhaust Keira? as dipsy said classics are a 3 piece system so it could be a catted downpipe with decat centre and backbox id try to find a friendly tester or a specially catted centre - i know awd used to have one adapted from a fiat coupe turbo for just such an occasion
corsa Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Out of interest i took my 07 STI to my local MOT station and asked for a check,it passed, just, but it passed. Thats with a snakehead downpipe, full 3" system with a firestorm backbox and a re-map. No need for me to worry. Davie
