scamb3 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I have just done an engine rebuild on my motor but now have a wee problem. Put the car in for M.O.T the other day and it failed on emissions. So i replaced the o2 sensor an took it back for a retest but it failed again!! The garage say the cat is working fine but the car is running to rich. Any ideas on whats causing this or any one had the same problem?? Thanks scott

Big 'D' Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Its a 1995 type ra Have you looked for any fault codes yet? (some times you will get a fault code stored without even seeing the check engine light) See the 'How to' thread in the Tech Section, or under ECU in Scoobypedia. When you start the car up does it idle around 1500rpm until it warms up and is it ok to start once its up to normal running temp? Cheers Iain
scamb3 Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 No havent looked for fault codes yet didnt know how to do it, will go have a look at the how to thread. Yeah it idles around 1500rpm untill it warms up. No it doesnt start rite when its up to normal running temp.

If it is taking a bit to start it when its up to temp it could be the engine temp sensor playing up, the fault codes may point to this. A faulty engine temp sensor would certainly cause the engine to run rich and certainly causes hot starting issues Cheers Iain
Big 'D' Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 thanks for your help iain No probs mate just let us know how you get on Cheers Iain
scamb3 Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 not good news. changed the sensor and has failed mot again. have checked for fault codes and the car not showing any faults. anyone got any ideas? cheers scott
Kenny.S Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) Have the injectors been disturbed during the rebuild, by that I mean where they removed from the rails to be cleaned/tested etc? Also be worth checking all the grounds in the engine bay, top of stut towers, chassis legs etc as a bad ground can effect the function of the O2 sensor, or more so, what the ecu sees Edited March 18, 2010 by Kenny.S
