wrxcook Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 booked my rgit today really cant wait to do it. hopefully i get a job offshore after iv done it......could go out as my trade(outfitter) or a rousty, wouldnt mind doin summit with rope access. anyone know what options i have once iv done my rgit??? I work offshore mate as a (vendor) ie not full time what your talking about the rgit alone won't cut it, I would be very surprised if you got a job with anything to do with drilling I know ruffnecks trying to get jobs as roustes meaning a cut in wages there is alot out of work and they will get the call before any unexperiance people but on a better note for your best chance of work you will need a rigging ticket + at least level 1 rope access not either or so unless you invest in they tickets the outlay for the rgit could be wasted I've got a contact for the ropes woman at rigblast if you want it
rig-pig Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) the drilling side is picking up so your best bet would be to try some agencies and speak to some of them and try to get away as a roustabout to get your foot on the 1st run of the ladder, or try some service companies i know a lot of my m8's are still looking for work and they have years of experience in the drilling side of the off shore industry as there was a LOT of pay off's in the last few month's and companies are still paying off people just now as wrxcook said a rgit on its own wont help it hasn't been like this off shore for years and as he said a lot of guys are having to take jobs that they did a long time ago, ie demotion good luck m8 but i would phone some agencies and see how much work is going around for new starts to the industry Edited February 26, 2010 by rig-pig
zeolite Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Good luck mate. Times are very tight! I can't afford to put fuel in the scoob at the moment due to the lack of drilling work in the last year. Damned banks won't lend oil companies to drill new wells. Anyway I am off to India next week to see what the rigs out there are like. Has anyone else been out there? I think I am going to work offshore Mumbai.
Rs_Traynor Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 my first choice would to go out as a joiner and do the outfits... it was just a thought of a career change that i fancied.

wrxcook Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 my first choice would to go out as a joiner and do the outfits...it was just a thought of a career change that i fancied. There is about no chance of that happening there is next to no joiners offshore never mind new ones
col666 Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 There isnt any joiners offshore! Try OP Marine, they do a lot of re-fitting of rigs and employ joiner types. I am working alongside about 30 of them just now on a rig in Croatia.
