sinny Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Did my first oil change on an impreza today (put all my previous scoobies into a garage) so wasnt too sure what job lay ahead lol, I was quite pleased as the hardest thing was removing the black plastic covering, even that was quite easy, the layout for the oil filter and sump plug is superb, from experiance on other cars the filter has been a pain to get to, also was amazed just how much oil it took to prime the new filter. I did make a noob mistake though lol, i was using a 12v light connected to battery and my door was just open so interior light was on so u can guess whats happenin next lol, yeah battery flat , ah well we live and learn lol, running sweet on silkoline pro s 5-40w now ,wont have any doubts about doing it myself again, just thought i would share my days experiance, openning up the guinness now
mikeyb13 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Wait till you do your first spark plug change. You wont find the layout quite as nice Get ready to swear lots!
sinny Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 lol will look forward to that 1, maybe better have the guinness before doing it

ciaranrb5 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 All you require is the correct tools for the job and the plugs are a piece of piss. Took me 20 minutes tops

I'm doing this soon and have already done it once. This time though I have the sandwich plate for my DEFIs attached to the filter, so no doubt that will cause me a problem or five. Spark plugs where pretty straight forward bar one of them; the rear one to the right hand side as you stand over the bonnet. And you're right, it is very satisfying
redeye Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 (edited) i have got problems with the sandwich plate on mine, subaru only stock the revised smaller oil filter which doesnt fit onto the plate, last time i changed the oil i had to put the old filter back on,not good. If anyone knows where to get the original larger filter please let me know, Edited February 27, 2010 by redeye
