More parts coming off today, cant wait to actually start putting things back together! Seems everything that comes off I want to either paint or recondition. It will be worth it in the end.

After searching the web I have found out how to put the studs back into my turbo, I am going to attempt this later. Also going to try and remove the box again! Hopefully some pics up later.

dont know what the d2's are like but i believe theyre pretty similar to the BC coilovers and theyve been awesome on my car

cracking project thread by the way, keep it up ;)

Still seems like all I do is remove bits now. Gearbox is removed, clutch is removed, front hubs, front drive shafts, inner wings also removed.

I have cleaned the wheel arches and inner wings etc and will mask them once dry to be ready for painting.

Cant decide what to do with the brake calipers though, refeb or replace? Or do a quick paint for just now then wait and get new ones?

Decided on BC coilovers for now - anyone selling a set?

Also removed the final stuck stud from the turbo. Hopefully put the new ones in tomorrow if I figure out how..........

if the funds allow it replace the calipers, they were always a weak point on classics even with uprated pads and discs

id look at prodrive alcons if you can find a set though theyre pricey for discs, ksport 8 pot setup, newage brembo's with adapter kit for classics - all value for money options with low maintenance and big performance

I do agree, I think the Ksport ones look like they would do the job. The budget I origionally set for all this has now gone out the window.

If you are gunna do something do it properly I always say.

Lets see what arrives in the post today. Waiting for a message back from a certain person too to see what I should do about my clutch.

I had bought a second hand one that had little wear but its not looking that great so waiting for a second opinion. May have to just order a new kit..

To screw in new studs use two plain nuts, screw them both on to the same end and lock them together with two spanners, then use this to screw the studs in. Loosen them once fitted and they'll both turn off with your fingers leaving the stud in place.

Oil or grease them first. Are they defo the correct thread? The ones that came out may have 'picked up' and damaged the thread in the holes? Do you have a tap to clean the holes?

Posted

Damn it! wrong threads!

Not to worry will pop by T+C tomorrow and order some genuine ones up.

Got to go pick up some other bits and bobs I ordered on Tuesday anyhoo.

Removed the flywheel tonight as I have been advised to get it skimmed, hopefully get that done in the next few days.

Got my POR15 paint in the post today so painted one wheel well and used the marine clean to prepare the hub carriers and parts of the brake calipers.

Will attack the other side tomorrow and hopefully get some pics up! Noticed that the previous owner must have used a big hammer and a chisel to fit the ball joints so will need to replace them while I am at it.

I got a skimmed flywheel from Wuz via the Aberdeen Scoobies forum and fitted that along with a new clutch last week. Hubs and brake components have been stripped, cleaned and preped ready for painting. I managed to borrow a big jack from my next door neighbour and Aberdeen Scoobies member Monty... BIG THANKS. Should also manage to get the gearbox back in tomorrow.

Got the new turbo studs and fitted them in seconds, having the right part makes it easy lol.

Decided to take off the side skirts and remove the spats, I like the cleaner look without them. Think I will need to get them prepped and painted as there are a few bits of paint missing.

Will post some pics tomorrow after I get lots done!

Been mainly cleaning and painting under the car with my many tins of POR15 and some engine parts with POR15 then top coated with lovely smooth finish hammerite. Seems everything I take off needs a good cleaning, preping and painting. Hit a major problem with my exhast uppipe when I tried to remove it though, so not made any posts as a result. A nut partially under the housing refused to come off and was unable to get any socket I had to fit on properly. I had bought 3 different 14mm sockets and was away to grind one down when the nice sealey rep gave me one to test and voilla! Nut off, now need to dremmel off the heat shields on my exhaust so I can access and remove the bolts holding it onto the engine.

Hope to get my new coil over shocks next week - looking for a GB on BC's. (hint hint let me know if anyone spotted a GB)

Went to the SIDC track day at Knockhill this week in the Bugeye and enjoyed myself to the point I have changed plans (again) with this car to do even more handling mods!

Also gunna upgrade the rear disks/pads/calipers when I do the fronts. The Brembo's coped really well with a lot less fade than I was expecting! Decent pads/fluid and lines would have made a difference though.

Plan for the next few weeks is to get her road legal and focus on handling, then look for the new ecu, turbo intake goodies and fuel system. Probably lots of painting too!

Posted

Plan for today is to finish painting the underside of the car at the front - second coat the hubs and a few engine parts and now that I have managed to remove the headers, take the up pipe off.

Got a reconed pair of 4 pots for the front this week so going to paint them tomorrow and then build them later in the week.

Not sure wether to paint them complete or do it in two halfs? Probably decide tomorrow.

Hopefully take some pics and get them added too..... Still no joy on the Coilover front..... still looking for a GB.......

Well its been a while since I posted an update, been busy with work and any spare time I have had at home I have used on the car or organising/clearing out the garage.

I refurbed the 4 pots I got my hands on and painted them with high temp paint. Had to do this in my office as it was way to cold to do it at home and I did not fancy doing it in the garage where overspreay may settile on my white car! After painting I baked em in the oven for 2 hours at 50 degree's C.

I have also taken deliver of a brand new set of BC coilovers, just need to get a adjuster extender kit for the rears as I will be running an interior for now. Few jobs I had not planned on have poped up so will now be changing the wheel bearings due to one loose bearing and 2 very tight bearings. I have also removed the radiator and timing belt cover to change my first ever belt! Wish me luck. After the air con belt snapped it cut a line into the cover and let all sorts of crap in there. Was advised to take the oppertunity to change the belt. No biggie I have been told!

Seems my plans of engine work are out of the window now as I really want to get it back on the road for summer. All the time and money I had planned on the engine has gone on upgrading or repairing everything else. This will come in time! You wait till you see what I have planned.

Underside of the car is now complete, looks good and will hopefully help protect it for years to come. Spent this evening taking all the brackets and any small parts off the engine to be powder coated this week. I will post some up to date pics and before/afters later this week. New disks and pads will hopefully be here later in the week.

This got me thinking! Obviously arming/disarming the alarm, starting the engine, honking the horn, flashing the lights would be really cool and quite easy but what about reving the engine!

All you need after that is a gear selector and control of the stearing wheel! Remember the bond film with the remote controlled BMW?!

On the safety side and concerns over it jamming open or revving during driving the car. You could fit a basic 'manual mode' switch in the car that would lock out the iphone while driving......or (probably your favoured 'hi-tech' solution) if you are fitting proximity sensors the iphone control could auto disable if anyone is in the car or the GPS has registered movement in the last 10minutes?....unless you switch it to a continuous iphone control mode, which you could use at shows or whatever.

You have probably already though of different/better ways to do this though?!

Not updated this in a while as there has been so much going on. Engine gave up so I undertook my first full engine rebuild(pics and words to come!) and I have stripped out the full interior. Also on v2 of the car pc and have now housed it in a smaller black box that will go behind the dash. Also changed OS and have done away with the wifi router in favour of an Arduino xBee Wifi shield(full info to come).

look a bit dark to me, officer Dibble and co have a hard on for things like this

Well my time was up! Had em on for almost a year with nearly daily driving with no issues and then got pulled last night at 2am driving into town to pick the missus up from work.

Cops were really nice about it and even removed the tint for me. Supposed to let 70% light through the window so lets just say with 8% it failed! They were nice and even checked my tyres for tread and car for any other defects it may have :andy::rotfl:

They found nothing else wrong and after a wee chat I was on my way.

Ohh well, now I need to get used to people being able to see in.

Seems the po po are cracking down on it as I just heard of two more folks last night getting pulled over. One guy got 6pts the other none. Both had to remove the tints there and then or face getting car towed.

They checked my car quite thoughly and even looked for a cat and went to town checking tread.

They measured my untinted front windscreen and it was 81% - legal is 80%. They stated that no aftermarket tint is legal on the fronts.

Glad I got the nice cops rather than the 2 that busted my mate and gave him 6 points there and then!

lol surprised you got away with it for so long TBH.

Six points? jeez thats a tad harsh IMO, Seems like those coppers were throw backs from a Nazi party TBH. :andy:

3 per window. Same cops I had, drivin a Disco TD6. A lad on JDMTAS got 6pts last week for his back wheels sticking out past his body. Seems they are crackin down hard on modded cars as they aint after speeders in this weather.
