Auldy Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Hi guys experiencing a little gearbox leak, so took the gearbox out earlier this evening and noticed a small triangle shaped hole underneath the shaft. just wondering if this is ment to be here? if not this will be most prob the cause of the problem. Just never noticed this before on the gearbox and looks too perfect to be a crack in the casing. any help appreciated. pic below for reference.
arch Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Def looks cracked, get it welded and it should be fine
Big 'D' Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Are you sure that it is gearbox oil and not engine oil from the plate on the back of the engine behind the clutch? I have 2 gearboxes in the shed I will go have a look and see if the triangle is on them, I am sure it was on one of them as I remember thinking the same thing when I removed it. Cheers Iain
Big 'D' Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Whatever that triangle hole is for it is there for a reason as it is on both the gearboxes I have in the shed, I would check that plate on the back (drivers side) of your engine mate. Cheers Iain
Auldy Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 Thanks for that mate, kinda thought it was to perfectly shaped to be cracked. havent taken clutch off yet so check that tomo.

Auldy Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 found that the bearing seal on engine was leaking - got new ordered plate you had mention previous was fine but took it off and re-sealed it while I could get at it just so i know its been done. had originally though it was gearbox because oil was bit low and flywheel n clutch werent sprayed in oil plus thought that hole mentioned above wasnt ment to be there. learn sumit new everyday cheers again Stuart
