Guest Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Since I got my 06 sti type uk I have alwasy had bother picking away in first gear using clutch control, at first I thought it was just me and needed to get used to it but I have had it just under a year now and its still the same, basically its like a deadband on the accelerator so when pressing it there is nothing then all of a sudden it revs up making it hard to pull away smoothly and as for going over speed bumps its a nightmare, Reversing is just as bad having to keep the pedal pressed in to keep high revs or it just drops off and stalls. I use the wifes car a lot and have no probs and my last car was a 03 sti type uk and had no probs so I am guessing it could be to do with the fly by wire setup. Anyone had any similiar experiance?
Jon B Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 could be a faulty sensor at the pedal end mate...
sparky_sj04 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Definitely a problem mate, I'd get it looked at. Mine doesn't do that, it's not an issue at all, and you can blip the revs a tiny bit before you feel you've even touched the pedal, so it shouldn't have any dead-travel in it..
mystery machine Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) My MY06 STI is just the same... ...always considered it a 'feature' of the drive-by-wire accelerator. More or less gotten used to it, but it can make the car a little tricky to drive in stop-start traffic (which I avoid anyway). Perhaps the action is adjustable, though? Be interested to hear what the dealer has to say. Edited February 11, 2010 by Mystery Machine
Jon B Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 as such with it being fly by wire there shouldn't be much of a delay as it's a digital interface...so to speak but it shouldn't be so noticable as being put yer foot down and a noticable period later the car responds.... maybe a dodgy batch of sensors???... pedal end is basically a potentiometer at the end of the day....may well be that some aren't as sensitive as they should be.. let me know how you get on at the stealers mate..
mystery machine Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I don't understand why you are all making such a fuss, it's the same system as is used in many modern cars - even Toyota use it, and they sell millions of cars every year Oh oh...
Melly-Doo Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 lol Just driving about in my new toyota prius.....chat later......cant stop. Cheers Melly

Guest Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 hmm a wee update on accelerator response, I disconnected it this morning to check plug ect, wiggled the pedal and gave the sensor a few calibrated taps lol, connected it back up made sure it was pushed in tight and it has made a big difference and a lot better to drive? this maybe just temporary who knows, fingers crossed anyway, or it could be all in my imagination lol
