glasgowcomputerslaptoprepair Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 UPDATE its been 2 weeks and 1 day. unfortuately hypertech are too busy to look at my car. they tell me a few more days everytime i ask. i spent 65quid towing it there and 65quid on a new battery. only ever driven it from clydebank when i bought it to queens park. how much more time is reasonable to give them before i take it back and torch it. (forgive my anger)

Mrs Sleiper Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 sorry to hear about your car. if you had the vehicle towed into them, they should have really made a point of getting it fitted in to at least diagnose the problems then advise of when they can get it fixed etc. ive worked in the motor industry and we always had to fit in recovery vehicles to at least diagnose the problems then a timescale could be given as to when it would be fixed. maybe they have different procedures for vehicles that have been recovered but that seems the fairest way. if they are really that busy, they should have just been truthful so you could have had a back up garage to go to. i wouldnt go to the point of torching it just yet. maybe give them til middle of next week. hope you get it sorted out.
glasgowcomputerslaptoprepair Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) so i have an update eventually (after 16 days) the car got looked at hypertech. duncan said the headgasket is indeed gone and also there is a very slight vibration which could mean the start of a big end problem. he said it would cost 3200 quid for a full engine rebuild and he advised me to sell the car and buy one for around 4000 in good shape. i paid 1400 for the car so i guess its time to cut my losses. im guessing i overpaid for a car in this condition. guess its not my time for my impreza dreams to come true. mystery machine Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Sorry to hear that the game turned out to be a bogey - hope you manage to recoup a good chunk of your outlay. You lives and learns, as they say - hope this experience doesn't put you off Scoobs or the Scoob community.
sti pretender Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 he said it would cost 3200 quid for a full engine rebuild That will be the price of a full forged engine I was half the price using a 2nd hand block, it's just trying to find a decent one. Best getting one from someone getting a big build as scrappies and ebay you could be buying a dog. I was fortunate and got Braveheart's original block. If you do sell and buy another in the future remember don't rush in to buying a scooby there are a lots that are sold with issues and problem like you have found out. If you need advice the forum is always here to ask question or post up potential cars.
Jon B Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 sorry to hear that mate..... as was said above next time give the car a thorough chaeck over there are some unscrupulous feckers out there... i'm pretty sure some of the guys on here would maybe even go with you to look at any potential purchases...
