mystery machine Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Here's a Hawkeye STI, Scooby dealership, 28K miles, 12 month warranty and '06 registered so might be in lower tax band: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...201002350256323 £14K - so just within your budget a bit more 'on the money' than the one quoted earlier? (condition-dependant, of course).
Ovv Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Im presuming that I cannot buy from an indy dealer then goto a main dealer an purchase an extended warranty ?
lupuss Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Mystery Machine said: Aye, I've seen that same info repeated on various forums...... and I've also read posts that vehemently refute these claims, stating that the equal headers are used only on JDM cars to complement the twin scroll turbo If anyone has any hard evidence to back-up either theory, then I sure would be interested in reading it I can't give you a definate answer either way - all I know it that when I commented about the lack of burble on my car to my dealer shortly after I bought the car, he explained that it was because for the Hawkeye model, the headers had been changed to be equal length... He may have been wrong - who knows... However when I changed my exhaust system, the improvement was considerable, though I still think the Hawkeye is probably not as 'burbly' as previous cars.... lup
Ovv Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) Been offered a mint hawkeye, any suggestions on how to talk round a very reluctant wife ?? Edited February 3, 2010 by Ovv

Ovv Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Offered her a holiday to Florida, which is her ultimate holiday.... thought about it for a few seconds then I got rejected. Might have to actually play the card Ive been threatening for the last few years, no babies til theres a Scoob on the drive.
Spaceman Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 get it done lay it done buy a case of stella and let her see what happens after it. just hope she don`t drink Buckfast or she might take you.
marko72 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Take her out for a spin, might change her mind....oh and shoes....and florida
Ovv Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Pulled the baby card... didnt go down well... I reckon now is the right time to buy, yes I see her point about not needing a second car right now, etc etc, but I reckon if I dont buy one now I never will. Shes says maybe after we have started a family, but I know that once children come along I will want to put on my sensible hat and buy a family wagon. I think once there are kids in the picture, I couldnt justify buying a scoob. hacked off and fed up.... Rant over.. Chris.
C_WRX Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 When I was thinking about getting mine I was doing many more miles than do now which wasn't so appealing, however explained to the wife that I'd always wanted one and our plan to have a family meant that if I didn't do it then I probably never would and didn't want to think in years ahead "oh wish I'd just gone and done it". Also has 4 doors so not completely impractical. She agreed and I bought my WRX. She had not long before got her TT roadster so was bit easier to convince. Now we have a baby girl, TT went for more practical family mobile, Scoob still in the garage. How about trying "all this snow the 4-wheel drive would be great" ??

Well, unless she has a change of heart over the next few days, it looks pretty gloomy from my point of view.
sti_steve Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Just make the plunge mate. My gf didn't like impreza's at all before I got one but it all changed once she had been in one and appreciated them for what they are. If she is that dead against it then maybe think twice but if it's just "i'd rather you didn't" then that can be presueded otherwise. To be fair they are quite practical with a massive boot, child seat harness, 5 doors and car overtake safely. Albeit the fuel economy is not the greatest! Let the storm settle and get one on your drive...

Ive got til Sunday to let the guy know, I think its more money than anything else to be honest but its such a good opportunity to get a very very low mileage hawkeye which has been well cared for, will give it a day or so and push again at the weekend.

mystery machine Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 FWIW, I reckon you need to turn that 'starting a family' argument around, maybe take a wee bit more of a positive approach this time, e.g. "this is something I'd like to get out of my system, it'll help me settle down and I'll feel more ready to start a family". And when finances are the main concern, I find it helps to put all the numbers into a spreadsheet (or at least on paper), so that I can prove to the missus (and myself!) that the purchase I'm proposing is in fact affordable You could maybe even take her out somewhere nice for a meal before Sunday and talk it over...? Then if you're not wearing curry/chow mein/spaghetti by the time the bill arrives, you could be onto a winner Anyway, best of luck mate. Have patience - you know burds, sometimes they just like to test us by making these things difficult, eh?

I've tried the old pen and paper thing with finance business but she has found me out. Now, I like to just say a fraction of the cost. Keeps both parties happy
