  1. Yep - see post above I have it running on my Android phone with a cheapo ebay bluetooth adapter... Shows quite a lot of stuff, just a shame it can't get to the Subaru settings since that needs a Tactrix cable and something like DeltaDash or Open Source equivalent... Wonder how you could do a hardwired install with a cheap android tablet?... The developer is good too - keeps updating and enhancing it.... J.
  2. Hi, I've had my Hawk WRX since new (early '06 plate). I've never had any problems with the car, other than the usual wear and tear really. I've changed the exhaust though since standard it was far too quiet and had lost it's burble. Something to do with the headers being now equal length I believe. Was remapped by Simon Jolly Green Monster after it's first year, and the map tweaked last week. Now runs near 280bhp/330lbft - torque gain from the 2.5l engine is Fuel economy wise - we'll don't expect miracles... I get 22mpg for day to day spireted driving. Probably get around 30'ish on the motorway cruising at 70... I think the 2.0l engine is perhaps a bit more frugal... If you get a very early '06/ late 55 plate you may just get into the lower car Tax bracket. Looks of the standard car are a bit odd, but adding 18's, a front splitter, rally flaps and a STI spoiler helps a lot The splitter and spoiler help to 'balance' the car up really. Hope that helps, J.
  3. I have the Kaylan Scoobyworld WRC mudflags and they were pretty easy to fit - just had to remove a few screws and replace with the supplied bolt clips and bolt on as far as I remember. Just don't tighten the bolts too tight, or you will damage your trim around the front wheel arch (as I did...) I then had to drill a couple of holes in the front wheel arch to screw the bracket in place, and I plastered the area with underseal before screwing the screws into the holes and then painted over the screws with more underseeal to make sure no water gets in... That's the only hard part really - the rear ones are easier than the fronts. The scoobyworld kit came with very good instructions too. You only need to jack up the front of the car to remove the front wheel - one side at a time... You might find it's harder getting your only flaps off than fitting new ones - I did!! Had to saw through 6 bloody stainless steel bolts... lup.
  4. To be honest, I recon there's more a risk from unmarked police cars now than cameras... Static ones are (usually) pretty obvious, and lasers too quick... It's a lot harder to spot the unmarked cars, specially since there seems to be such a wide variety being used now - Scoobs, Evo's, BMW's, Merc AMG!, Focus ST/RS even a Golf TDi down my way... lup.
  5. I have a Garmin Nuvi (basic model...) with optional speed camera updates which I think you had to pay extra for. Works ok, but no laser detection, but as JohnD says, once you've been lasered it's probably too late - think legallity of laser detectors is questionable now too... Also, my mobile running Android combined with Google Navigation and Trapster (all free from Android Market) work ok. lup.

  8. Hi, Yes, if the gasket between the centerpipe and backbox are completely knackered then you should replace it, since your system will probably leak otherwise. They don't cost much - your local Subaru dealer can get them for you, or from the usual online scooby specialists... scoobyworld, etc The more critical gasket is the one between your center pipe and the downpipe - on the WRX it's a doughnut shape. Not sure wether it's the same on the Sport though... Hope that helps, lup.
  9. I have grooved discs and kevlar pads too from Ian - excellent price disc and pads all round for less than £200... Have been pleased with them - wear on both discs and pads has been good too. Good idea is to spray the hubs of the discs with Hammerite - stops them rusting and looking crap. I think Ian might offer this as an extra now though... lup
  10. I love Torque - Engine Management Diagnostics and Tools on my HTC... Great little app that combined with a cheapo bluetooth ODB2 reader off fleebay, will monitor loads of engine params, boost pressure, coolant temp, speed, revs, HP, torque, g-force etc etc... You can use it to read and clear fault codes too, but I have'nt had any to clear yet! The only things that's a shame is it won't read the Subaru specific PID's (unless someone would like to tell me how...?). I know it's probably more of a toy than a true diagnostic tool, but I love it! MailDroid Free is good too - POP3 email client that doesn't lock up my POP3 mailbox unlike the supplied email crap app... ..And Trapster to beat the cameras lup.

  13. I bought a Forge VTA for my Hawkeye WRX (ecutek'ed..) from ebay, and loved the sound - my wife HATED it Fitting it was easy... However I did find that I got the odd 'pop and bang' from the exhaust - I believe this is due to the engine going a bit rich when venting... I then removed the dump valve before taking it the dealers for a service to avoid the usual rant from them. As I drove the car to the dealers I noticed that the car drove much better than when I had the valve on! The difference was so marked that I left the valve off... I still miss the noise though! I cannot fault Forge's customer service though - I bought the valve second hand from ebay and it stuck a bit. I contacted Forge about it and they send me out a free servicing kit which fixed the sticking. Anyway that was my experience - I think the VTA dump valves probably only benifit cars running a lot more power and boost than ours do tbh.. Hope that helps, lup.
  14. Hi and welcome to the forum... For your headlights, stick on 'beam benders' available from Halfrauds etc will be fine... You just apply the circular part as far as I remember - it's all in the instructions... I use them on my Hawkeye WRX whenever we go to France without any problems. Hope that helps, lup.
  15. I've got 18" Rota GRA's in gold (yes I now it's cliche...) on my Hawkeye and been really pleased with them. I used the same excuse to buy mine... 4 new tyres needed, oh well may as well go up to 18"'s lup
  16. If it's a Forge dump valve - looks like one... Send them an email or a phone call and ask about their servicing kit. I bought one from Fleebay and found that it was sticking early in the morning and took a couple of hard accelerates to free up properly... I could tell since no dump and turbo flutter.. I took it appart and the lower piston had dirt that seemed to cause it to 'stick' to the intercooler exit hole. Cleaning that part with brake cleaner removed the build up and it worked fine. I then contacted Forge about what type of grease I should use, and they sent me a free servicing kit which had new grease, rubber gasket rings, new lower spring and alloy piston... I cleaned the valve up, installed new parts, regreased and the dump valve now works beautifully. Excellent customer service from Forge! Hope that helps, lup.

  18. Hi, Welcome to the forum... I'm no expert in these kind of things, but I think you should have a 'PPP fitted' certificate or something in your documentation if PPP was fitted to the car. Also, I think the PPP changed the backbox and maybe center section/second cat of the exhaust. It also changed the intercooler pipe (the short pipe between the top of the engine and the intercooler above it) to a blue Prodrive badged one - you might be able to spot this.. Of course they also replaced the standard ECU with a Prodrive mapped one. I think a standard exhaust for your car is twin pipe backbox, resonating center section, 2nd cat, downpipe with 1st cat... The lights you have are a Morette conversion from the standard 'Bug Eye' headlights with was popular since the bug eye light proved so unpopular. The OZ wheels were offered by Subaru as an assesory and not part of the PPP pack. As to wether it's an import or not, I don't know I'm afraid, but if you have an english manual then I'd suspect that it's probably not...   20. As a lowly owner of a WRX I may as well put my two p's worth in... I bought a new Hawkeye back in '06 and was initially very pleased with it, but the moding soon started with a new back box to make it sound better - a failing of the Hawkeye Since then I've changed the centre section, decated the second cat, green panel filter and ECUTEK remap by Simon at JollyGreenMonster, and done some styling mods but nothing hugely serious. The car drives much better in gear and runs about 270bhp/310lbft. I've not spent a huge amount of money, certainly not £3k... Yes I'd love an STI but for now my WRX is fine... So if you want similar power gains, then spend the money and make your mods However..... Should you want to do more at a later stage, then I'd agree with the others that the STI is a better platform to start from. For me to progress any further, I'd need to change the turbo, injectors, fuel pump, and probably a sports decat... And that's without upgrading the brakes and suspension to compensate for the power gains... By the time I've done that, then I may as well buy an STI. Hope that helps you decide what to do... J.

I can't give you a definate answer either way - all I know it that when I commented about the lack of burble on my car to my dealer shortly after I bought the car, he explained that it was because for the Hawkeye model, the headers had been changed to be equal length... He may have been wrong - who knows... However when I changed my exhaust system, the improvement was considerable, though I still think the Hawkeye is probably not as 'burbly' as previous cars.... lup
  23. Yes you're right, they changed them on the Hawkeye... I have to say when I bought my Hawkeye I was a bit disappointed in the exhaust sound (or lack of sound...) A Prodrive BB, straight through CC and decat helped bring it back though... The size of the standard BB was massive!... But I guess it's still not quite as good as a blob... Good enough for me though and swmbo is kept happy...
