Jon B Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 after all the isht ave had due to me coolant freezing i've now got a leak at the front of my turbo 2000 on the right hand side front of the block (when looking from the front). it appears to be coming from behind the thermo housing but at the same time it doesn't appear to be any of the 2 pipes which come up over the block to the back near the throttle body, does anyone have any possible ideas??? so far i've got the rad out and bottom hose off... i'm hoping the block aint fecked.. it's dripping at a rate of twice a second with the engine off and no pressure in the system......
stum450n Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 May be a stupid question but what's it leaking? Oil I presume?
mk1cos Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 the rubber seal around the thermostat, that was the problem i had, just put a new thermostat in...problem fixed
scoobyterzo3 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 sounds like it may be the wax pellet in the waterpump has gone....basically the pump needs replaced.....may be wrong though...

Not having a good time at all with this car, defo sound's like the waterpump or seal...hope your luck changes soon mate....
Jon B Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) its defo not the thermo housing..... the leak is behind it when looking from the front.... how much of a job is it to do the water pump????? is it a timing belt off job????? would the coolant freezing kill the pump and or seal????? yeah i aint had much luck with this one at all...... i've had more hassle with this one car than what i've had with the other 4 i've had in the past year...... C_WRX Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Don't know much about the mechanical side of things, but thought would mention, even though you're obviously not too bad at the old mechanical side yourself have you considered just biting the ££ bullet and putting it in to a Subaru specialist to give it the once over and let their expert eye see if there's anything nasty they can see lurking about. Hopefully there isn't and it's just small annoying things needing straighened out but a few pounds now may save many more in the future ?? Just thinking out loud - your car your choices of course.
Jon B Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 its only started leaking since it froze so there's summit went on it..... tbh its a decent enough motor with a good strong engine its just the aftermath of the coolant freezing thats annoying me..... quick question...does the gasket go right round the rear of the pump including the rear of the thermo housing???? beginning to think thats what it is... i see your point mate i just prefer doing my own repairs..been fcuked about to much in the past with garages......... the only things i don't touch are timing belts lol
scoobyterzo3 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 water pump ain't that bad of job, timing belt needs to come off, better to remove radiator, think new pump is about the £50 mark...its just tight for space to get a couple of bolts.........
Jon B Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) list of parts needed so far:.... new water pump core plug (for rear of block) new timing belt/ tensioner/idlers etc changed while i'm at it...anyone got a tutorial on doing the timing belts?? MORAL IOF THIS STORY IS.....CHECK YA ANTIFREEZE.... LOL hopefully that'll get her back on the road till after mot time in march..... then after that i'll be on my quest for more power... Keeping body standard...... she's got a jun splitter on at mo with crystal pack thinking sti 6 rear spoiler/new set of wheels.... Edited January 15, 2010 by Jon B
