pmacFTO Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 My wife's Scenic is stuck up the road where we walk the dogs and we have tried a few options but to no avail as it's solid ice and only one wheel is spinning! I am gonna go back with the scoob and tow it. There is a towing hook in the boot according to the manual and I can attach it to the front or back of the car. So what I want to know is, should I pull it in Lo (I have the dual range lever) and have you guys any other tips One thing which helped a bit was a tip about just using the clutch and not using the accelerator at all to just turn the wheels and no more (on her car - not mine) whilst pushing it and getting it rocking a bit... Should I do it in 1st or 2nd - Hi or Lo. I'm guessing 1st and in Lo as it should gain more traction. Cheers!
Big 'D' Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Hi mate Make sure that you have sufficient traction with the scoob on its own before you attach it to the stuck car. You will probably find that if you have fairly good traction in the scoob that it will simply pull the stuck car out on its own but it will be made easier if the stuck car is being driven as it is being pulled. Make sure that there is plenty of room either side of the scoob too as if you loose traction in the scoob as you take up the weight of the stuck car the scoob may want to dance from side to side a little, obviously the last thing you want to do it clip a kerb or another car etc. I would try pulling in 1st or 2nd (Low) mate, if its really slippy the wheels are going to spin no matter what you do but the added traction of the 4 wheel drive should see you right. Cheers Iain
pmacFTO Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Cheers - just as I thought It's in an empty office carpark - closed for the holidays. I've already been there and had enough grip altho it's got colder tonight and more icy (snow is hard outside). Just waiting on my mate coming with the tow rope
arch Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Could you not try removing as much ice/snow as possible around the wheels with a shovel and using salt to mealt what you cant shift then two it out
pmacFTO Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 We just got back - it was solid ice and the car was miles from anywhere at a dog walking place! Got it out in 3 mins lol - no towing! Just put de-icer on the tires and just used the clutch to go very slowly and it got grip then we reversed it a bit and took a run up...job done

Phil MC Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Glad you got it unstuck Paul . The wagon would never have got stuck though, maybe time to start using that for the dogs?
