Spaceman Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 get the codes read is it obd2 on my2000 or is it the wires under dash soon as you have them it will give you an idea could it be maf? try unplugging it see what its like don`t go booting it tho?
jae Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 first port of call for me would be MAF, I have had two in three years and very similar issues, do you run and induction kit or standard airbox? inductions *can* be worse on MAFs.
lumsden26 Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 get the codes read is it obd2 on my2000 or is it the wires under dashsoon as you have them it will give you an idea could it be maf? try unplugging it see what its like don`t go booting it tho? what is obd2?? a mate is coming to look at it tonight but unplugged the maf and made no difference. cheers Mark
Big 'D' Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 what is obd2?? a mate is coming to look at it tonight but unplugged the maf and made no difference. cheers Mark OBD2 = onboard diagnostics 2 which you will require a code reader for. Some MY00 Imprezas have the wires under the dash others are OBD2, it seems there was a changeover period prior to the introduction of the Bugeye Impreza. Cheers Iain
Big 'D' Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 When it boosted in 2nd was it normal boost or higher/more savage than normal? I would imagine as the car is idling ok and unplugging the MAF has made no difference that the MAF may not be the issue (but stranger things have happened). Have a look under your dash and see if you can see a pair of black single pin connectors right next to a set of green 2 pin connectors, they should be directly under the dash roughly in line with the steering wheel. If they are there plug the 2 black single pin connectors together then turn your ignition on (dash lights on engine off) you should see the check engine light flash, a slow flash = x10 a fast flash = x1 so 2 slow and 6 fast = 26 and so on, there may be more than one code if so there will be a pause between codes, the series of codes displayed will repeat in a loop so dont worry if you miss it you will have plenty of time to get it as it repeats. When you are done switch off the ignition then unplug the black connectors. Cheers Iain
WUZ Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 If the car idles OK and then still runs when the MAF is unplugged - MAF is screwed
Big 'D' Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 If the car idles OK and then still runs when the MAF is unplugged - MAF is screwed I agree 100% with this but we need to know if the MAF was unplugged with the engine running or was it unplugged then started? Cheers Iain
lumsden26 Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 plugged in the two connectors and code came back as 23 so new maf sensor it is! cheers for all your help mark
