wrxcook
Hi people collecting some mods for my car and was planning to get them all fitted at one, but rather than waiting I was wanting to fit what I could, so I'm going to buy a decat up pipe and would like to know if I would need a remap after removing the cat, also I've heard stories about the forth cilander overheating to failure after removing the cats, at the moment I've got a sport cat downpipe on a 2003 wrx Link to comment
C_WRX
Hmm, I had up-pipe/sports cat down-pipe/fuel pump all fitted at once the day before my remap and was advised to drive off boost till remap completed. By no manner of means an expert but I'd say don't get it done till remap time. Think the engine management light will come on too which is telling you something ! With your up-pipe, consider getting it heat wrapped. Most of the folk I consulted advised this. Link to comment
wrxcook
Could you explain heat rapped a bit better, and how to get it done Link to comment
C_WRX
Crickey, being put on the spot here ! Okay, not that I feel confident answering this, believe the explantation is that heat wrapping reduces under bonnet temperature and increases the flow of exhaust gases. I also have part of my downpipe heat wrapped, done by Hypertech when they fitted everything for me. Don't think it is overly expensive to get done and not really a mod, more of a beneficial supporting role. Link to comment
sti pretender
It's worth using search for old posts, most members have done similar mods or asked the same questions. http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...458&hl=wrap As for when to fit parts, get everything you plan for the current stage of modding get a map date then set aside a time to get everything fitted then drive off boost until it's mapped. No point in damaging your engine running unsupported mods on boost. Also local meeting area great place to see what others have done and get ideas for the future. Link to comment
Richie Cross
And if you're like me, get hold of a 2.2k ohm resistor to avoid getting your EGT warning light coming on! Link to comment
ciaranrb5
I ran a 100% de-cat for several months on my classic with no issues. To get the full benefit you need it mapped though. Link to comment
