Jamessti Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) Hi all, over the weekend I change my standard cat for a sports cat. Just managed to get it ready for the tunnel run. I be bothered changing it very year for the mot. The only is that in either 4th of 5th gear with full boost it will not go above 6000 revs. It’s also bit jerky. Is it cutting the fuel off? Very thing else is fine with the car. So the big question is do I need a remap by JGM? The only other mod I've done is the exhaust and a panel filter. The model is a classic ver 5 sti. noris Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 A remap is always a good idea if you modify a turbo charged car to make sure the fueling ect is spot on and to avoid any engine damage. As for your fuel cut question I dont really know. I've got a v3 sti with a sports cat and 3in system running a standard map and i dont have any problems, even though I am planning a remap Try contacting simon (JGM) and get his oppinion
Jamessti Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Funny you should say that.. I'm trying to book it in with him to remap it.

You may find that even with v power the ecu will be trimming the ignition back to try and prevent detination, I would not run your car that hard until it is mapped to be honest fella. Cheers Iain
Deano 666 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Hi james, have you tryed resetting your ecu since the downpipe change? The turbo maybe over boosting that would cut the ignition, to prevent you blowing the engine. i have fitted a few sports cats on differant age Impreza's some do need remapping others dont. Dean.
Jamessti Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 (edited) Big D I'm running V-power with NF octane booster. I've been staying off boost since I knew it was doing it. Hi Dean was going to try that tonight. Over boosting is what JGM thought it could be. I should of got you to fit it when you are better lol Edited October 28, 2009 by Jamessti
Jamessti Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 Cars has now been booked in with JGM on the 16th Nov
Big 'D' Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 When you say its not going above 6000 rpm in 4th and 5th, is it holding at 6000rpm or is it taking all power away from you almost as if the engine had cut out, overboost is usually violent enough for you to engage the inertia reel in the seatbelt. Cheers Iain

There is a cut in power, you can hear it and feel it.
damienp1 Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I agree with deano........you don't need octane booster with Vpower.......keep that for when theres no shell garage around and then when you have to put crappy fuel in then use it.............however if your car is a uk car and not a special edition like a p1 or 22b then it'll be mapped to the uk fuel and not the 100ron jap fuel so even the crappy fuel will see you through.

It's a STI so will be used to 100ron or better fuel. A remap will not be a bad thing tho', for our crappy fuel. Thanks for the help guys. Edited October 30, 2009 by Jamessti
