badbaz Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Lifted the rear seats to remove rear shocks and wondered what the large grey bar/brace bolted under the rear seat base is for?
jimser Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 side impact protection/strengthening. bit of weight saving to be had there lol would leave it in if you take your kids in the car though
badbaz Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 side impact protection/strengthening.bit of weight saving to be had there lol would leave it in if you take your kids in the car though It can go then, no seats, no kids, no protection required! Every bit helps!
badbaz Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 It looks a bit more substantial than that, might be wrong, I'll weigh it when it's out.

badbaz Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Aye, I was gaunnae say - you could just cut back on the beer and pies a bit and achieve much the same effect (not you personally, like). Too true, and it does apply to me!
cruz104 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Too true, and it does apply to me! Baz what exactly are you doing to yer car, I take it you are turning it into a track car? Cannot wait to see the results when you are finished. j
badbaz Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Baz what exactly are you doing to yer car, I take it you are turning it into a track car?Cannot wait to see the results when you are finished. j Not a track car John, I can't see it ever being fast enough, or strong enough for that matter, to be used in anger on the track. The car only ever is used for pleasure on the road, my aim is to make it an as effective road car as I can within the limits of the Impreza and my wallet. Lighter, sharper, quicker(slightly) and more fun. It may see a track eventually but I doubt very often. Stripped out road car - that's the aim. It's probably all a bit silly but why carry around all that trim when all I'm doing is belting around backroads, more often than not on my own or with one other. All 'guff' to come out, two buckets and harnesses in, outside must remain true to the rally car look. Suspension mods are ongoing at the moment and the engine will see some work next year I hope, nothing too mental but we'll see where we end up. Never gonna sell it as I could never replace it so may as well play with it!!
sti pretender Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 nothing too mental but we'll see where we end up. How many people on here have said that, I'm sure Peter (FAI17) probably said that at one stage and we know how bonker is ride will eventually be .

I know Robert, it'll have been said many a time but at what point does the power gain become dis-proportionate to the expense? And then, what increase in performance on the road verses actual usability, don't want it to be so focused that it couldn't go on the Skye run or such like, I'm looking for a balance, erring toward performance. The first mods to 340bhp were a great leap and good value, from now on they become less so. We'll see, hoping the weight loss will contribute to a good increase overall when next engine mods done.

Ah good for you Baz sounds like a great wee project, thinking this will be a never ending project though for all the right reasons, once you start you canny stop!!

What? PETER? He said that? I've only ever heard him say, "If it breaks - Upgrade it!" Edited October 6, 2009 by thefastone
