Good and bad things.....if your going for a straight cut ppg it is bomb proof but only thing is its noisy in gears 1 to 4 as you keep your standard 5th gear!! I think its a good idea!!
scooby222 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 newage sti should have a 6 speed box capable of handling pretty serious power mate, should take 450-500 ok
scoobzie Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 am not after big power its just less shifting and longer gears am going for a md321h or similar so should see about 400 of each hopefully
braveheart Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 hi does anyone have a 5 speed ppg kit running on there newage sti apart from andy forrest i am toying with the idea of this and doing it with mine there are alot of advantages to be had from this i think. Hi mate im running the straight cutt PPG kit in mines however it is a classic and tbh, it all depends on the use of the car if you want to use it for track would defo go for the PPG, my oppinion most of the tracks iv'e been on i have never been in 5th Gear never mind 6, and also what power your car is running they are supposed to be bullet proof up too 700bhp... the noise i love theres nothing better than the wineing of the PPG... you do get use to it, it can be annoying when normal daily driving tho....and you do get some funny stares ive actually had some one come up to me in the garage said there is a funny noise coming of your car lol bless her cotton socks... its a 3 thumbs up for me Chris..
scooby222 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 standard box will take that and with a good remap youl need a lot less shifting anywya, in standard ppp form i was always hunting through the gears on fun runs but after a full decat and remap it was like having an extra half gear right through the box. theres a guy on snet with a big build 500hp wrx who went for ppg and wishes hed gone for 6 speed instead down to the noise.

I can understand about the noise and again it all about what power he will be running mines will be over the 500bhp and wouldnt change it i have driven 6 speed and PPG and to swap to 6 speed just for the noise was not a winner for me, my friends car is in Scooby Clinic finishing of his 2.33 on the P1 and has advised him PPG so it all about what you prefere i guess and what's rite for the car...
scooby222 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 thats the wonder of scooby tuning, theres an option for everyone il stick with my 6 speed til i break it,then..... lol
thewelsho Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 The PPG kit along cost about 3K and thats before you get somone to fit it. Seems like such a heavy expense unless your running big power and tracking the car. I'm hoping to go for a 6-speeder at some point.

Thats very true JW its expensive i guess however i am running big power ..all the best for what ever you choose my friend.. Chris
scoobymark Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 4k for a nice noise think i will stick with my 6 speeder spare 4k spend it on suspension mods and brakes
colin_ross Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 There's more to it than the noise of course, and I'm not talking about how much torque it can handle. I'd recommend you drive one first before you buy. There is more backlash than a standard helical transmission and this can make for jerky progress under the wrong conditions. The ratios are nice though and 80mph at just over 3k rpm helped me do the McRae run all the way down from Glasgow on one tank.
