uno turbo Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 hello kent scoobies, ive been away for a few months with a broken knee, but now im on the mend im able to drive my car again. (at last). while i was laid up the car didnt drive anywhere, but was started a few times. now im driving, it seems to smoke on idle after a few miles of pootling around as it warms up, ive noticed it a couple of times now, and im not sure if its because its just been sitting around for a while, or a slightly bigger problem. will get it properly checked out, but thought id kill 2 birds with 1 stone, and say hi and ask for help at the same time.. any advice will be appreciated. rich....

Sounds like the oil seals on your turbo mate!! when its cold they have probably gone hard and as it warms up they expand and seal!
Pele Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 i would go with that too What colour is the smoke? If it's white then it's turbo, I had same thing happen on my first scooby and I needed a new turbo.
Big 'D' Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Is it defo smoke, if it is only present as the car is warming up it could well be condensation from the exhaust. I know that turbos do fail on the scoob but it is very rare and they usually outlast the car. Cheers Iain
Pele Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 If Im reading the post correctly he is saying it smokes after it is warmed up when it is idling?
Big 'D' Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 It seems to smoke on idle after a few miles of pootling around as it warms up. I read it right he said as it warms up, Just trying to help, it is quite common to get steam from the exhaust whilst the car is warming up that is all I am trying to say, does the smoke clear once the car is hot? Cheers Iain
yogi- Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Have had this smoke from exhaust too, a couple of times about 18months ago but not happened again since, just keep ane eye on it as maybe nothin to worry about
uno turbo Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 hi folks, thanks for the advice, pele the smoke is white, and appears when the car starts to warm up and idle in traffic or when i leave it running, its not on start up if thats any help. i do have it booked in to cheam subaru on wednesday for a full diagnosis, so will let you know what they say. hope its not too major as its only just had a £1000 service and new parts 6 weeks ago. but if it is thats life, the joys of owning such a good car, i'll say it probably will never cost me as much as my uno turbo did to repair... and hello to lee too, things are not bad thanks, glad to be back at work to earn money to spend on the car... hows you??
