High Mileage

hi to all

Well ive got 134.000 miles on my scoob. And as a result would like to know what should be changed etc.

I have no previous history on it, apart from the story of its accident.

so ive done the oil, filters, plugs,ht leads and a new cat. So next is the timming belt as its high up. Then my clutch as its not as quick as it was plus ive had a slip every now and then but only when cold. Or so it seems, im also waiting on new brakes to arrive. (upgrades)

So after that its the suspension as my both rear shocks are gonners, well 1 is for sure.

But my main concern is the engine. The only oil leak i can see is from my sump a small hole and loads of rust so must go. Other than that i cant fault the engine only a very faint rattle (thats expected for age and mileage) But what do i know.

The cars a 97 classic and would prefer to stay standard coz there cant be many left. And i prefer the rarity. any suggestions or what to look out for would be grate

Check your suspension bushes while your changing the shocks inc. diff carrier as they'll prob be shot by now.

As for the engine if it was me i'd change the belt inc. tensioner and idlers then just give it regular oil changes and treat it properly (i.e. warm it up and cool it down every run).

Cheers, Johnny

If you are doing the timing belt I'd do the flywheel oilseal at the same time. costs pennies but i've had two go on 130k+ mile subaru's.

our scoob is now sitting at 182000 and tbh we have not had a problem with the car as long as the oil filter and oil services are regular it will run for a long long time. I was panicky when our scoob went to 150000 but she just keeps going and going.

Dont worry just go out and enjoy the car after you have done the belt and bits and bobs!!!

Nope!

My first Forester had 186k on the clock when it was 4 years old :o

Never missed a beat with regular servicing (and the oil seal mentioned previously) ;)

to be honest id never even saw a car with any more than 152,000 on it. So am well impressed at how long sum folks are going. But is it ther original engines?
