See if you click on the u tube link and watch in normal quality, you can't hear the turbo spooling! - compare it to watching in "HQ" - really shows how bad the standard you tube compression is thats the best bit! haha
thefastone Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 bad Script Chris! took long enough to get this gearbox sorted and to have to do it again!
thewelsho Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Eek! Nae luck Chris, hope you get it sorted soon and for much cheapness

Ah sorry craig though you meant that we had not given the info required to match up the front to rear diffs on the box I sold to grieg. Now that is bad luck, hope its all sorted now
soundie Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Hello people, Chris (scoobysounds) here, I've just changed my name to Soundie. thefastone said: bad Script Chris! took long enough to get this gearbox sorted and to have to do it again! hi dale, yeah bit of deja vu goin on here - or maybe 'groundhog scooby.' TheWelsho said: Eek! Nae luck Chris, hope you get it sorted soon and for much cheapness cheers john CRAIG, was just chatting to SW and he says there's no way the diffs are wrong just from the feel of driving it. He also said interestingly, that the uk cars had different rear diffs as standard, to slow the prop speed down a bit. There was some kind a magic involved to make it work, but I think he said it reduced the prop speed by a factor of 1.1 .. well i never. -- so the only thing I can think of is this; opinions please Although the car is only at the very most 315bhp (not sure what the torque figure is) the power band is very wide across the rev range, so Is it possible that putting the gearbox under prolonged torque through the gears is causing this. And it is possible that, in fact, this car IS set up correctly, and there's just too much torque for these standard gearboxes? its just too weird that countless people have said they've run a lot more power than i am through these boxes - I took it so easy round the track when this happened that if I were to take it any easier, then the whole scoob/track experience just wouldn't be worth it, and it would start to look like selling time.
Guest CRAIG D Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 HMMMM I wouldnt have thought a gearbox would have blow that quickly with that sort of power. Could of been just a weak box?
soundie Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Right, Got the car all booked in at Steve Whitsons and well chuffed with the plans; 6 speed conversion (39000 from an 03 sti) exedy organic clutch lightened flywheel lightened pulleys delete air con compressors to counteract the extra weight also getting gauges fitted while i'm there. I was seriously considering ppg but in my research there seemed to be an overwhelming majority verdict for the 6 speed route. Even, i must say, from the companies who sell ppg kit! was off the record, of course. The next thing will be to open up both my cardboard 'gear'boxes and see if they're refurbable for sellage. Might have a crack at that maself. Thanks all for the wishes of getting it sorted with cheapness, but that didn't really happen Cheers, Chris. (ex-scoobysounds)
sti_steve Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Are you taking my gearbox Chris?...I better go check its still there! (same year and millage ) Thats really good news though. Will be extra peice of mind aswell instead of just replacing to another 5 speed. I told you about an upgrade to 6 speed sti box You reckon you will be back on track anytime soon?

sti_steve Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Sure will. Need/want to do a few upgrades in the mean time. Whitleline goodies and Ferodo pads front and back. Leave it at that and then after the track day I will see what other mods will make it handle/stop/go better! Let the mods commence!

braveheart Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Hey Chris, Glad you found a soloution, 6 speed, I went the PPG route for the tracks and to be honest the ones i have raced on, I have never got out of 4th gear.. and i knew the PPG was good for up to 700 bhp not that i will ever achieve that, but was nice to know it can take that amount of abuse and again SW was the man to fit mine ....... and is still running strong one and a half year later....better not temp fate lol Chris.. And i know what you mean nothing is cheap on these lol....
frank c Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Good news Chris... I*did* wonder who Steve was on the phone to right enough lol Hope it all goes well for you bud.

Yeah, I'm told the 6spd should be good for 600hp... but then, the ones i had were supposed to be good for 350.. ..and nuh. yeah talking about tempting fate, i don't wanna either. I think its gonna take me a while to trust the drivetrain even after this upgrade. Its on its last warning.

Yeah steve has to deal with a lot of mind-changing and bamboozlement when he's on the phone to me, so if he looked confused and impatient, then that was me on the phone! ha. he's a good man.
