Knockhill Today - Another Gearbox Ersed

ok its something about my driving, or my luck - but i've mashed another one ..

thats two gearboxes in two trackdays - 100% record!!

I'm only running 310/320 roundabouts there, so I'm sure its not ppg time. .. surely.

Lost drive at 3:10, and have a listen to the sound when I'm being towed off, thats NEUTRAL!! If anyone can enlighten me as to whats's going on here, Id really rather not have to buy 1 gearbox for every 5 laps of kh

Big thanks to Sti_Steve for sticking behind me on the way home - hope your bbq was good, weathers smashing for it.

Steve was paxing when this happened, but I went out before on my own and the car was absolutely fantastic, there's really nothing I would change handling wise- was getting nice n sideways on the hairpin (I hope somebody got a picture!). Its only my second trackday, and today I really got a feel for the tyres, and what the difference feels like when they're properly warm. Never felt that on a road. Of course, as soon as I started feeling it session 1 was pitted :rotfl:

yeah they had squeezing cones everywhere - they were a bit of a pain, on the rolling start I had nowhere to go at the end of the straight as cars were coming up the inside, almost pushed me into the cones! I think I was being too polite on that first lap, was just trying to stay out of peoples way!

There were loads of very aggressive drivers out, you can see that shed wagon kicking up boulders that bouced off my bonnet :rotfl: and that evo was very quick and very on my bumpers.

- yeah the boxes are the same ones that are in the Sti. the phase two ones.

Sorry to hear about the gearbox mate.

What you mention above is why i was saying about the speed sundays not being the best place for your second trackday.

Hope you get the car sorted out without too much cost.

M8 am pritty much in the same boat as you with the gearbox. Iv found out what my problem was tho. My front diff didnt match my rear diff and hey presto 2 buggered boxes and a buggered diff.

Only real way to find out with rear diff you have is too take the plate of the rear diff and see which code you have.

This is one of the reasons i dont do speed sundays and u get a lot of fannys and its not worth the greif or hassle so i dont do them.

Yeah. My situation was that my front diff was a 4.11 and my rear diff was a 3.9. This causing the front wheels and rear wheels moving at stupidly differant speeds.

I eventually got sw motorsports to open my gearbox up and check which type of front diff i have. found out it was a 4.11 and rear was a 3.9. Only found this out after i blow my rear diff to bits.

I fitted tghe new box and bobs your aunt problem solved HOPEFULLY :rotfl: Il find out at the end of the month

..it doesn't feel like those symptoms. i've had it for 3.5yrs and it feels mint to drive usually - I would imagine i'd notice the front and rear going differenct speeds. maybe not. --> Great knowledge tho mate, defintaly the first thing i'll look into. :D

Hope you get this sorted mate and it doesnt happen again :D

cheers mate yeah i hope so..

SW put this one in so he'll know his way round it alright - its going to him next week.

I'll mabies give him my old gearbox and see if he can't misplace 2 or 3 ppg sets in there. :rotfl: aye right.

Yeah i thought it should be safe running at these sorts of torques, but either my cars not right, or i've got two broken gearboxes that say otherwise.

your cars lookin mint mate steve showed us round it - although i think you are mad for needing any more than that. 350? yours is more like 470 isn't it?

Not sure why you fitted a 3.9 diff with the box I sold to Grieg as Both John and I had previously put posts up saying it was a 4.1 front diff when Grieg had it advertised. Glad its all sorted now.

I changed the diff from my old box to the griegs old box as i thought it matched up with the rear diff i had on it already.BUT i found out that the rear diff was a 3.9 hence the reason i chaged it.

This must have been a problem when greig had it too and pro the reason he blow the box too.
