hawkins Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 HI, finally got my scoob, picking her up this thursday . Will post pics + more info later. Been asking advice on what is best warmup/warm down procedure, any advice would be great. Advice so far is 5 minutes engine on then run under 3500rpm until oil temp hits 80, for warmdown a nice easy drive 5 minutes low revs then a few minutes idle before switching her off. Thanks for everyones help and advice so far and look forward to meeting you all at next meet.

Hi mate, it is a good idea to get the engine warm before setting off and keeping off boost until the oil is hot as desciribed above, when shutting the engine off from a gentle run around the town you can just switch it off, if you have just got off the motorway/track etc it is a good idea to let the engine settle and cool down first before switching off, the reason being is that if your exhaust/turbo is still very hot after a good run/blast and you switch off the engine the oil flow round the turbo stops and the oil left in the turbo round the bearings will get roasted, over a period of time this can cause a reduction in flow of oil round the turbo and result in turbo failure. Cheers Iain
hawkins Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Iain Great cheers for advice, is 80 degrees the preferred temp to use boost or 90 degrees better? thanks again
Big 'D' Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 IainGreat cheers for advice, is 80 degrees the preferred temp to use boost or 90 degrees better? thanks again Dont worry too much about temps mate, if you let your car get up to temp (engine temp gauge on dash) then leave it another 5mins driving around off boost, then you will be fine, if you think about it, wasrm your car up on the drive (obviously with you in it) then set off on your journey, by the time you have hit a main road (depending on where you live) the engine and oil shoud be up to temp, unless you live on a motorway slip road Cheers Iain
hawkins Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks, will warm her up on drive then easy 5 min drive to warm up fully + brakes etc.... before a boost. Also reverse for cool down. Thanks again for excellent advice
