Coilover Advice?

Recommended Posts

Posted

So after reading up on this rear end knock on my 06 scooby, ive decided to just bit the bullet and get a shiney set of coilovers.

Just looking for some advice as what ones to go for, where i can get them, and how much i should be paying for them?

Also how much am i looking at to have them fitted and set up properly? And where would be good to go for that?

Appologies for all the questions, but i kno you guys are the best to ask.

Cheers, Mark.

Tein do some really trick looking kits for the Impreza, and you can bolt and actuator onto the top of them to change the damping settings from inside the car!

I know I want a set of them myself!

I have Tein Superstreet fitted and they are pretty harsh for everyday use. Unless you're going to go on track, I would tend to give them a miss. I can't say what's good or bad in this department but in terms of getting them fitted and set up look no further than Hypertech. I got mine supplied and fitted by Hypertech :P

unless you intend to track it i would give any coilover a miss unless your spending big for the likes of EXE-TC or AST

Lookin at 600-700 quid budget.

Would just like the opinions about other set ups before i jump into buyin tein just because i know the brand..

BC coilovers are realy good. About 600-700 all in.

I fitted a set a while ago and they are superbly engineered and on the softest setting they are softer than

normal suspension.

Had a quick chat on the fone to the guy at hypertech, booked in for two weeks today to fit the coilovers and other bits and peices.

Just waitin on the mrs to come home to break the news and get on her ebay acc! Will be fun..

Think i will go for the BC's. If theyre reccomended, and cheaper than the teins then why not.

I just put BC BR series coilovers on my car, really happy with them.......you get them for £649 and you can also get extenders for the damening adjusters for the rear so you can adjust it without having to rip out the rear seats, they only cost £24 overall really good!!!

there is a 1-30 dampening setting on them so lots of room for playing about to get a good setting that you will like!!! i was quite surprised at how comfy the car feels when the dampening is set to a low value!!! I just fitted them myself then got Falkland performance to do the geometry setup.....its feeling great!!

Aye i got her to order up a set of BC's last night for me so they will be gettin delivered to the yard durin the week, you can keep yer eyes off them don! Booked in for fittin a week on sat.

When i spoke to the guy at hypertech yesterday he said about other whiteline bits and bobs worth fitting at the same time so it may well be what your talkin bout cusco_kid. Im still a bit clueless about all this so i'll rely on them to sort me out with a good set up. Due to the miles i do he thinks i can go for a good fast set up :D

So will the set up dictate the ride height or can you adjust the hight and still adjust the dampening?

The other bits will be droplinks and an Anti LiftKit - nice bits, plus Duncan fits them for free! So you will just be paying cost on those bits.

Just wait till you get it on the twisties after that! Its freaking awesome - just have to learn to put up with the uncumfortable ride meantime

Post up your review when you get it done :D :D

I'm going to go for the BC coilovers, my shocks are shot to s****. The Spec C suspension isn't exactly soft, so hoping there won't be too much of a problem.

I'm really surprised that AST's have only had one mention!

It would have to be AST's for me every time. - just the cheapest ones mind, lets not be silly.

most other coilies I have experienced seem to skit sideways a bit.

I'm not sure what the budget of BC's are, but if you are thinking tein range (what, 700ish?) then I'd save up an extra £150 for the ASTs.

promo over. :rotfl:

Got the coilovers fitted Mark & been out for a spin up the backroads, really pleased with the handling & the ride is not too hard,

just got to play around with the settings a bit,

The car sits a bit lower but looks the biz,

Just got the dented front wing that somebody kindly left me to get sorted & I'm ready for the Skye run.

Do you know how much lower it is mate? Have u got a splitter? Thats the only thing ive been thinking, could do with tucking the wheels in... but i dont want major hassle with the low frount end?
