hacky Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 (edited) Well after disappearing for a while, it has started smoking again so going to tackle this. Theres no Subaru dealer nearby so where is best to buy the parts? So far I have seen them available at... Flat 4 Online - Are these genuine OEM parts? Also it says suitable for 1992-1996, Mines is a 1997 V4 sti type r import, will this be the right one? http://www.flat4online.co.uk/catalog/produ...r-cover-gaskets Graham Goode - Havent a clue what ones I need! Again are these OEM parts? If not better or worse? I think the part numbers I need are : GGS866 : Spark plug gasket EJ20G engine (x2) GGS867 : RH rocker cover gasket EJ20G - 9/96 (x1) - Again only mentions up till 1996 GGS1026 : Rocker Cover Bolt Seal (x6) GGS608 : Half moon seal for rocker cover (x2) GGS662 : 3 bond grey gasket sealer for sump (x1) http://www.grahamgoode.com/subaru/parts.php?group=66 Edited March 17, 2009 by hacky
Rice Rocket Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Why not just to your local scooby dealer who will get them for you? Eaglesham will be able to get them for you even if you have an import. Ricey

Right parts first time and mail order too.
fai17 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Call Zen,RCM,or maybe AS Permance...they sort you out if you don't want to go the dealers
hacky Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Couldnt get through to Lateral, however called up RCM and they were really helpful and sorted me out. As mines is June 1997 it could have been one of two rocker gaskets so they are sending me both and I just return the other one, save any confusion! Should be with me for the weekend so I can set about it. Its a bit embarrassing pulling into work with smoke coming out the bonnet vent! Cheers guys.
hacky Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Oh yeah, when I get the receipt in I will post the part numbers up, for future reference.
hacky Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 Going to attempt this tonight, i'm assuming that I will need to dump the oil first? Take it there would be some oil still sitting in the head?
drb5 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Expect to lose some oil, but jack up one side of the car at a time....saves losing/replacing all your oil.
colin_ross Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 ^^^^^^^ Thats a top tip from Dave. Put aside the whole night for it, take everything you can out of the way (washer bottle, battery, airbox etc). It'll come apart easy enough but spend some time geting the faces CLEAN. Oh and don't overtighten the bo;ts when putting the covers back on, they've been known to snap.. Best of luck.
hacky Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 Cheers guys, Its just the drivers side, as usual, got to the point where its doing my tits in. Just need to make sure I don't break anything in the process like I normally do! Also heard about danger of breaking the coil packs. Plan on just swinging them round out the way. And I've heard about over tightening them, don't fancy snapping a bolt!
hacky Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Just to give you an update. Managed to get the job without any major problems! Thank god! It was a ******* to get the actual rocker cover out. I managed to get the 6 bolts off fine, but actually pulling it up was a mission. Anyway, problem now sorted and I have a nearly full tube of three bond left over, wish I had bought a smaller tube! lol Expensive stuff too, think I've got a lifetime supply of it! Cheers for the help guys.
