GazTurboUK Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Alright folks Well as part of my servicing for the impreza im going to have to replace my rocker gaskets, now the quick question i have is should i use gasket sealer when refitting the new gasket/cover and if so what is the recommended sealant? Cheers Gaz
drb5 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 No harm in using a bit of sealer. I'd suggest Hylomar, as it stays soft and sticky.
GazTurboUK Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 That was the name i couldnt remember, someone had mentioned it before and couldnt for the life of me remember what it was. Next question do most motor factors stock this?
kookamunga Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 you could use three bond its what sub use when they build the engines think its around a tenner from your local friendly subaru parts department

GazTurboUK Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 Cheers guys, when you have replaced the covers have u ever replaced the bolts with new or just re-used the old bolts?
drb5 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 The bolts themselves should be fine, but the donut's around them should really be replaced. Just make sure you don't strip the threads in the head.
billyboy Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 No no no mate! Do not use any form of gasket sealer with these. The only reason they leak is because they harden with the heat from the engine. It will take a long time before they need replaced again. Its up to you but i reckon its a waste of time and money using sealer.Im sure dealers dont use any form of sealer on them.I replaced the r.c. gaskets on my Terzo when i had it and didnt use any sealer, just make sure that the contact surfaces are dry.
