BalliSTIc Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Ah the much maligned looks of the STI hatch... Maligned rather like every previous generation in fact. But therein is a whole different can of worms which I'm sure has been done to death on other threads. I happen to LOVE my STI hatch and took great exception to dear ole' Clarkson calling it a "smashed buttock"!!! But speaking of form over function (and I know Japanese aero-kits often do both), I guess it was only a matter of time till something like this came along: http://varis.co.jp/japanese/extremor/subar...09ver/front.jpg http://varis.co.jp/japanese/extremor/subar..._09ver/rear.jpg For me, the front bumper is cosmetically better than stock but a bit OTT with the extra canards and defo has some Evo X cues in the front air dam vents. Loving the rear diffuser... always thought the STI hatch rear bumper "lacked" something skirt-wise just behind the wheels. Likewise the stock spoiler.... Nice.... a bit understated and perhaps not QUITE big enough... but THIS effort? Hmmm.....
ANDYJDMSTI Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Still looks like a "smashed buttock" but one that has been tarted up slightly with a thong!!
scouk Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Still looks like a "smashed buttock" but one that has been tarted up slightly with a thong!! They've messed witht eh front too much (which was the only part of it I liked) and tehy ahavent sorted out that gawd awful rear light cluster
thewelsho Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Looks much better, but that is down to other non-standard additions as well apart from the front and rear styling. There's tints, cool wheels, its lowered and some tasteful graphics. I think the addition of the kit alone still wouldn't look that great.
mystery machine Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Certainly has more presence than the standard model which, to my eye, has about as much visual tension as a bar of soap.
cullenmin Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Its still a hatch, and I'd still rather have the new Focus RS
mystery machine Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I'd still rather have the new Focus RS That's a FANTASTIC looking hatch. Pity about the front wheel drive (JMO).

Glyn seen your car a few times in the flesh now so to speak and was not keen on it to start with but the more i see it the more i fall in love with it, do you want to swap lol its like when the bug eye came out everyone thought subaru had made a big mistake but they still sold. i like that kit very much Edited March 4, 2009 by windy1945
scouk Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 lol its like when the bug eye came out everyone thought subaru had made a big mistake but they still sold. i like that kit very much THere is a problem with that... THe hatchback ISN'T selling that well.. Sales are down massively on previous years.. ANd IIRC when they released the bugeye it was one of Subaru's highest selling years!!!
BalliSTIc Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 There is a problem with that... THe hatchback ISN'T selling that well.. Sales are down massively on previous years.. Aye... no doubt credit crunch and high road tax ain't doing it any favours either... but then no-one said running a scoob was EVER gonna be cheap. But we digress... ... Oh, and Greig - though your motor is rather tasty (particularly the 'zorst... my one BIG gripe about my STI), the swap's off I'm afraid, although I appreciate your "Tayside-meet solidarity" mate!
wulsey Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I think if i were to own a new hatchback STI it would have to have the WRC rear spoiler fitted and something done with the rear lights! Other than i like the new hatchback.

ANd IIRC when they released the bugeye it was one of Subaru's highest selling years!!! The Blobeye was actually the biggest selling model for IM - these are the last ten years according to figures in EVO Magazine - 1998 - 3070, 1999 - 3843, 2000 - 3510, 2001 - 3363, 2002 - 3361, 2003 - 4262, 2004 - 3203, 2005 - 2970, 2006 - 2177, 2007 - 1737, 2008 - 787 + 1200 projected sales (was written in October 2008). I've got to admit, that if Ford had spent the extra money and made the RS 4WD, then I would currently be on the waiting list for one, and I would have happily paid £5000 more than it costs at thye moment for that privelege, but looks like I'm sticking with the Scoobies for the moment.

True.. But every year since then the levels were lower than the Bugeye ever was! the 2003 figure is very impressive, and I never realised it was that high! but no doubt the bugeye was a popular model maybe harmed the sales from 2000 -> 2001 a bit but sales were still pretty high and consistent Disappointed with the hawkeye sales.. I really liek that model.. As mentioend above probably somethign to do with cost of road tax and peopel beign encouraged to go "economical".. Pah! Edited March 4, 2009 by ScoUK
