Midnight21 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hi just removed my wind deflectors and there is double sided tape stuck on the car where they have been...any ideas how to remove it...have tried using heat gun but wary of maybe damaging the paintwork (and its burning my fingers lol) Thanks
scoob fae ork Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hi mate you can get sticky stuff remover its quite good (thats what its called by the way) or WD40 with a hair dryer will work too
micra_wrc Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Cathy, try blotting it with sellotape or any sticky side of tape and carefuly lifting the tape off - i find that this tends to lift any left over residue
4Hero Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I hear this guy is pretty good at removing tape
mystery machine Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Servisol do a sticky-stuff remover, which you can buy from Maplin. Failing that, lighter fluid's an option. Whatever you use, try it in on inconspicuous area first to make sure it's not going to damage/discolour your paintwork
mystery machine Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Here it's: http://www.solotechnic.co.uk/label-remover...0ml-i23623.html Disclaimer: I've never used this on car paintwork, but I've used it on other painted items and it has worked a treat. Leave it to soak them wipe off. Repeat treatment if necessary.

cusco kid Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hi just removed my wind deflectors and there is double sided tape stuck on the car where they have been...any ideas how to remove it...have tried using heat gun but wary of maybe damaging the paintwork (and its burning my fingers lol) Thanks hi m8 contact autoglym or autosmart and get some tar and glue remover ,this will soften the glue so you can wipe it off without damaging the paint finish .my son has is own valet bis /he uses it all the time because some paints are water based you have to be carefull what you use on them NEVER use cellulose thinners on 2 pack paint as it can degrade the top coat as we found out at mercedes cheers geo
dan_jess Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 As Geo said, Autoglym instant tar remover works a treat
C_WRX Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Yip, I'd go along with cusco kids suggestion of autogylm or autosmart tar & glue remover. Autosmart is a little tougher to come by (shame you're not more local to me as I have 1ltr of it!) but the autoglym can be found fairly easily e.g. Halfords and is also handy for the annoying tar spot removal at spring polish time .
kookamunga Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 you could try using your charm to get some panel wipe from a local body shop it works a treat you shouldn't need a lot.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I have used the Autoglym bug and tar remover before and it worked well.
