stevie 4 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 ok i have a strange issue with my heater.i have a noticed when im driving my heater works no problem. but after iv been parked up for five minutes or so the fan kicks in but when this happens my heater starts to blow cold air but if i give my engine a few revs the hot air comes back only to blow cold air as soon as the car is at idle again.anyone else had this or know what might be causing this.

Assuming that your water level is ok in the coolant system, it sounds like either a restriction in the heater matrix pipework (from the block into the matrix) or your water pump is struggling to pump the water round your coolant system. I would recommend that you get your water pump checked out to be on the safe side. Cheers Iain

Big 'D' Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 cheers mate ill get my water pump checked.would a blockage in the pipework not cause it to blow cold all the time A blockage in the pipework would cause constant cold air, that is why I said a restriction For example if you had a hose that has a slight kink in it somewhere that might not let water through at idle but when you increase the revs the water flow would increase and squeeze past the kink in the hose but then when you back off the kink would seal off the water flow again this could be the same for an internal restriction. Cheers Iain

Cheers Iain

stevie 4 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Let us know what you find.Cheers Iain coolant was down a little about a 1.5 pints would this be enough to make a differance. cheers
Big 'D' Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) coolant was down a little about a 1.5 pints would this be enough to make a differance.cheers When you topped the coolant up could you see coolant in the resevoir? If not it may still need more water putting in. If you top it up then start the car for a few seconds then stop it and check the level again. If your water was low you have either got a weak pressure cap or a leak. Cheers Iain Edited February 13, 2009 by Big 'D'

Cheers Iain no mate there was no coolant in the resevior.im going to have a good look for any signs of a leak tomorrow.(if its dry enough that is)if not ill change the cap and see if that makes any difference. cheers mate

The other more obvious ones to check would be all of the pipe joins in the coolant system, be veay careful with any attachments on the rad as they are/can be very brittle. mystery machine Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Re: Strange Heat Issue I had a dog once had the same problem. Visitors to the house would often ask what to do if it tried to hump their leg. It was a big dog, so I suggested they fake an orgasm Hope you get that heater issue sorted. I actually had exactly the same problem with one of my motors WAY back, but I'm buggered if I can remember what the resolution was - sorry
