We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a

paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call.

He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'. Please forward this.

It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc

PLEASE PASS THIS AROUND AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AS THIS CAN HELP IN AN EMERGENCY

Hospital staff going through your Mobile Phone??

I dont think so!!

The idea itself is probably a good one but the only person who would go through the phone would be Police. Hospital Staff accessing the info on your phone constitutes an Offence under the DATA PROTECTION act 1998 and more seriously, Privacy Act 1998.

Only an Oathed Police Officer (which means your hobby bobby cant do this) is allowed to deem the situation Justisfiable to access your mobile phone for personal information.

As i am VERY familiar with a paramedic, i just asked her if she is allowed to do this and the answer *HELL NO!!*

I have heard of this before and from what i have heard the police will look for ICE if you have been in an accident, i think it is a very good idea - especially if you many have children at school or with a childcare provider.

As i stated before POLICE not hospital staff.

Good idea maybe but info is wrong.

This was started 4 or 5 years ago and got a lot of publicity after the 7/7 events in London.

I believe it got a big hype from Vodafone / East Anglian Ambulance way back then, but was firmly squashed when the legal folk pointed out the ramifications of such an idea.

The priority is to deal with your critical injuries - finding out who you are is very low down on the list of things to bother with.

There were also stories circulating soon after, that people were going through casualty's pockets claiming to be looking for a mobile with an ICE number, but actually using it as a cover story (if challenged) to steal from the victim.

Question to those of you who are still tempted to bother - do you lock your phone with a PIN to prevent unauthorised use? .....

If your car is involved in a serious accident and you are unconscious, your registration plate is a rather simpler route to identification in many cases - assuming you're not on false plates of course :D

If you're that bothered that nobody will report you missing, then get your NI number / postcode tattooed on your butt :P

There is no doubt it's a good idea for sure.

When I was a kid my old's made my sister and Me wear an ID chain called Tallisman which had a waterproof capsule on a chain with all your details like blood group, doctor, phone numbers etc etc.

It didn't really catch on I don't think but now we can chip kids now can't they?
