DR Motosport Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) At the "Big Meet" earlier today, a few of us were talking about Road Tax prices. At the November mini Budget, the rules were changed again. No longer are car from 2001-2006 going to be hit with the £400 expected tax. A few today weren't aware of this, but here is a link to the DVLA web-site with all the latest changes I was talking about. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ownin...hicle/DG_172916 About half way down the page, the key parts is this quote. *Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006. These will stay in Band K. Which means from 1st April 2009, your road tax will be £215, and £245 for 2010. This only applies to cars from 1st March 2001 to 23rd March 2006. Damn site better than the expected £400. Actually still doesn't affect to me. Because I imported my JDM STi new 6 years ago, it never had an emissions value, so mine stays at £185 David Edited January 26, 2009 by DR Motosport
jf_wrx_2004 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 nice one mate did not know this, will save pounds now
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Nice of these tools to do a u-turn now..........when I got my first road tax reminder for the 2.5 L Wagon it was £400. That's when I though it time to punt it on. I am now paying £185 for the classic and £145 for my diesel A4 Avant. You wonder how long they'll keep the rates down for !? Cal
sti pretender Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Type R was registered Feb 2008 lucky not CO2 figure so still £185.
irish al Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 What about JDM imports ? I have a 55 plate but it was first registered in UK in April 2007. I assume "Date First Registered" is based on when it was registered in UK and not where it came from. Will it be K or M ??
stum450n Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Woohoo! Thanks for getting that up, I hadn't heard the news!
colzo Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Best news I've heard today. Was dreading / trying to justify paying £400 for road tax.
DR Motosport Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) What about JDM imports ?I have a 55 plate but it was first registered in UK in April 2007. I assume "Date First Registered" is based on when it was registered in UK and not where it came from. Will it be K or M ?? Lyndsey did say you had just paid £400, so they must be looking at the 2007 registration date rather than the 2005 manufacturing date. The JDM imports are a strange one, they aren't mentioned on the DVLA web-site. When I bought mine, it came into the UK under the older SVA rules - hence no emission figure. But a few years later this was changed to the ESVA, and from then a CO figure from the model report was used. Although there does seem to be some exceptions to those rules too. I'm sure Dipsy told me he has a CO figure but still cheap road tax. He would need to confirm that - it was a while ago we talked about it. I would argue that your car is a 55 plate, manufactured in 2005, and would be valued for trade-ins or insurance payouts as a 2005 / 55 plate. So why pay higher road tax for a 2007 model. That's the route I would go down, probably not get anywhere, but worth a try. David Edited January 26, 2009 by DR Motosport
sti pretender Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I know Jimser imported his Spec C the same time as me last year had it SVA'd but got no CO2 figure on his documents and is only paying £185.
iainc Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 me anaw - pash! Aye... another mug here too... if only the car was a few months older it'd have still been in the cheaper tax bracket (despite being the exact same car)
20kendo Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Got a jdm bugeye late last year fully expecting to get hit for the 400 when the v5 came back - took 2 months - no co2 reading classed as a private light goods hence 185, seems to be a bit random how they class your car!
