Midnight21 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi on my travels back from Lewis at New Year my front wheel started making a scraping noise!! Thought it was the caliper/pads but on inspection today the back plate on the disc must have had a stone lodged between that and the disc which was making the noise. Can the back plate be removed and replaced(its rotten) or do i have to replace the whole disc? Cheers from a learner lol
RA Dunk Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 if its what i think it is its only a heat shield, i ripped mine off eons ago and never had any bother since
Midnight21 Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Thats it the dust / heat shield (didnt know the correct term lol) Didnt want to rip it off just in case
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Yeah rip the badboy off. Took mine off too
ryan_gwa Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Its called a weather shield, mine is abit rusty, might get it cleaned up.
Midnight21 Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Its called a weather shield, mine is abit rusty, might get it cleaned up. So can they be replaced or is a whole disc change job? Just the road i stay on is always caked in mud from tractors etc especially in the winter!
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 You dont need to change the discs, you can just buy the sheild itself and its just 2 bolts to take the off
Midnight21 Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Cheers thanks for all your help would probably prefer to replace it (do i get them from subaru or get one off a second hand disc? )
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 You could get them from subaru or just them second hand. You should get rust free 1's from a fresh import.
StewartyBoy Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Am I right in saying it was stuck between the grooves of the disc rather than between the disc and a seperate part of the car, which the others referring too are a weather shield!?
bobbyc Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Cathy theres pleanty of cars getting broken up for parts just now, you could probabaly get one off the site, we can have a look at the meet at the weekend

It was stuck between the dust shield and the disc and when removing the stone, part of the shield broke away (its an old car lol)! But just going to remove the shield now anyway
