Best Exhaust For Classic My00

Recommended Posts

Posted

Im looking to buy a new exhaust at the end of this month. I currently have a custom made exhaust, but's poor quality and too noisy for my liking. Dont think it's doing any favours performance wise.

I've narrowed it down to a Haywood & Scott with the Afterburner de-cat centre section. Not a bad price for both and seem to be good quality.

Anyone got any views or suggestions on other makes before I buy?

Cheers folks, Ryan.

no no no, dont bother with that, get down and see Wully at Meercat and get him to make you a nice wee exhaust, quite a few of the folk on here have his exhausts, full system is about £550ish

heres mine

I found it a bit loud at the start coming from the standard setup, but I then fitted a set of GT spec 2 headers which quietened it down a bit, I dont find the exhaust noisey at all now, infact I couldnt see me with any other exhaust.

Meercat exhausts come with a lifetime guarentee also as far as im aware

I stand to be corrected but cars with this exhaust get consistantly good power gains :D I'm sure Alister and Colin Mcrae had an exhaust made there.

I bought my uk turbo/RB5 back in June first thing i did was changed the exhaust.

all with standard cat

Had a HKS to quiet

Had a TSL firestorm to LOUD

Now got a HKS ti-tip Superb although 3" the whole way through wish has actually lost me power!

soon to be fitted with a H&S de-cat with a 2.5" restriction for more back pressure.

It is amazing how u get used to a loud exhaust. I changed it several times thought it was to loud as in i was embarrassed to drive home because of what the neighbors though.

Recently one of my neighbors told me my car sounds super now result!!!!

I have an 07 sti and C&C in Hillington did my snakehead and all i have after that is the Firestorm backbox.

very good service and a very good price.

bell mouth downpipe and decat will make it more noisy. having said that it all depends on the backbox you intend to use. i have full decat but have a scoobysport back box so its pretty sedate comparatively.

have you checked your current system to see if it is still made in sections? its just less reputable custom exhaust places can do away with flanges etc.

You've all made me start thinking over and over again! :D A guy in work recommended RMS in Ayrshire, if anyone knows anything about them?

The exhaust on mine at the moment is a de-cat downpipe, straight through centre and big **** off jap-can rear. I absolutely hate it!!!

Previous owner had it installed at the cost £320, got ripped off by the looks of it.

Cheers for all your input, now ive got to go away and have another think :o

Another vote for Meercat here... I came from Dundee to get my system fitted and have recommended them to a few people through here who have also had no problems.

Yes its a trek, but the quality is superb and they will make it sound and look EXACTLY how you want it to. :D

Cheers,

Grant

couldn't agree more, Meercat all the way !

to keep your options open tho you also might want to speak to Gus the Bus as his mate makes some pretty trick stuff too

Don't they have a electric pipe bender .Don't like the look of seeing loads of weld joins .To me it does not look very neat .This my opinion

Meercat for me too.......have had afew different applications from Willie. The current backbox on the Merc was commented on by the Merc garage guys by saying what a good job had been done.

Willie will make your exhaust to whatever spec you want i.e style and sound. He knows his apples as he has worked on all manner of vehicles from the McRaes escorts, 6R4, bikes, boats and Ron Kiddels Drag Skyline.

Very good prices too!!

Will that make much difference when it's under the car? ie you canny see it :D

Just a thought

I brought along some heatwrap and when they'd made the downpipe, they wrapped it up nice and neatly for me. :o

Its really the downpipe thats 'bitty' though, the rest of the system is long solid bits of pipework and the bends are very clean and arent substandard.

I've seen some custom stuff that makes its way to the back of the car by any means possible, smaller pipework, straight angle bends etc.... and this isn't the same. The feedback from owners, results of cars using Meercat systems and the fact that the McRae guys rated their work highly enough to trust their own personal cars to them was what made my mind up. :D

Cheers,

Grant

Looks like I'm off to get a Meercat in the first week or so of newyear, as long as my bank balance allows! Got to get two new rear tyres and a standard down-pipe cat :D

I would rather wait for a decent exhaust than spunk it on a ****er!

Cheers everyone!

For what its worth, i bought the H&S centre cestion and scoobyworlds ninja 2 back box in a deal from their site.

Very good fit, very good quality and not too loud, plus comes with a bung which i had in all the way down to see andy F, was very quiet, i reccomend

I'm using a H&S downpipe and centre section on mine (uk98), which when mated to the scoobysports backbox (made by H&S) i had sounded great, a lovely rip without being to loud. I'm now running a scoobytek backbox which is stupid loud but i like it :D and i've got the best sounding car as voted by my young lads class mates (9 year olds) :o
