rallyfever Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 (edited) UPDATED - 16th Feb Marshal's Training On Sunday 8th March the Jim Clark Rally have organised a Marshals Training Day in Duns for all marshals thinking of volunteering for this year's event on the weekend 22-24 May. This Marshals Training is FREE, food excepted, and is for new Rally Marshals existing Rally Marshals experienced Rally Marshals training and will cover specialised training in Instage Marshaling, Stage Timing Marshals, and for Senior Stage Marshals, i.e. Stage Commanders, their Deputies, and Stage Safety Officers. All those interested are urged to complete the online application form on the Jim Clark Website homepage or discuss with myself. Bob Wright Chief Marshal Hi All, Met with Colin Pagan (Jim Clark Rally manager) this evening and had a productive meeting, the good news is that it looks as if we can work together to help promote the SIDC and Jim Clark Rally. The things we discussed were as follows; SIDC promoting the rally on the SIDC website Jim Clark Rally promoting the SIDC on the rally website SIDC members marshalling stages on the event, this could include Friday Saturday, or Sunday - maybe all 3 if we have enough people A display of Subaru's in Kelso and Duns, depending on numbers we could do both SIDC trailer on site in Kelso and Duns to promote the club Colin is going to have a think to see if he can come up with anything else that he we could do on the big rally weekend. We have contacted Phil at SIDC to see what he thinks we could do to help over the weekend and John McBay will keep you up to date with this. The exciting news for all Motorsport fans is that the thing we all hoped would get signed off - has been!!! A Super Special Spectator stage will run through the town centre of Duns on Friday night, and again on Saturday. There is expected to be around 3,000 rally fans packed into the Market Square to watch the cars roar through the streets at an estimated 100mph - the 30mph usual rules do not apply!!! John and I will keep you all up to date with our progress, but if you have any ideas that you feel will make this an even better weekend please leave your thoughts here. Also if you wish to attend the weekend please leave your names here. Many thanks Gary & John Back to the Future for 2009 Jim Clark Rally The Jim Clark Rally will be returning to a three day format for 2009. In confirming the dates of the rally as the 22nd to 24th May, the organisers have announced a full programme of events which will see more of the rally’s activities take place in its traditional home town of Duns. A historic event has also been reintroduced. The weekend’s action commences in Edinburgh on the Friday evening with the start of the Jim Clark International Rally. Competitors will head down over the Lammermuir Hills to the Jim Clark’s familiar territory in Berwickshire. And with the National Rally starting simultaneously in Duns, there will be shades of the early days of mainland Britain's only closed road rally, with the reintroduction of special stages run in the dark. The International event will be a counting round of the British and Irish rally championships, and along with the National event, will be run on the Friday and Saturday of the bank holiday weekend. Competition will be centred on the Borders town of Kelso where central servicing will take place. Another feature from the past will see the reintroduction of the Historic Rally, and this will take over from the International Rally on Saturday afternoon, to be joined by the ever popular Jim Clark Reivers Rally on Sunday. Both these events will be centred, serviced and run separately from Duns - another move resonant of the first few years in which the rally was run in its current tarmac format. The organisers are pleased that while the Jim Clark Rally continues to incorporate rounds of prestigious national championships, it is also addressing the wishes of many club competitors, and indeed spectators, in staging the Reivers and Historic events, based on the Jim Clark’s traditional heartland of Duns and its surrounding area. It’s hoped that these events will continue to develop their own character while fully complementing the international and national events to contribute in making the Jim Clark Rally one of the most exciting motor sport weekend’s of the year. With a total of 220 miles of special stages criss-crossing the central servicing venues, and the order of the running of individual rallies changing during the event, spectators will be given an exciting weekend to keep them on their toes as, in a variety of ways, old and new come together to create the spectacle of the 2009 Jim Clark Rally. Rally Manager Colin Pagan said: "We certainly feel that the 2009 event will provide an exciting mix of the familiar, along with lots of fresh innovations, to maintain the Jim Clark Rally as one of the best events in the country - whether for competitor or spectator. We're working on the details of a number of other aspects, and we'll be letting everyone know about these in the very near future. Once again Berwickshire in May is the only place to be for rally fans." As details are confirmed, information will be available on this website under the relevant event above. The above misses out one point that will make the rally special - watch out for more news in the coming weeks. I suggest we make this a Scooby Clan Gathering and bring as many Scoobies together as possibel over the weekend. I am sure John (Scottish Borders Top Man) and I could arrange the logistics and look what we could do and where. Anyone interested please reply here for a cracking Rally weekend!!!! zeolite Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 I marshal every year so I would suggest we have a Scooby marshalled stage.
pmacFTO Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 What happens at the Edinburgh part of this m8? Do they just display the cars or are they driving down to the rally stages (are they road legal?) Or do they trailer them down (more likely I guess!) I'd love to get some pics down in Duns but I'd also like my son to see and hear these cars if they are gonna fire them up in Edinburgh (he's only 4!)

The Edinburgh part will only be a ceremonial start, then the cars will drive from there to the start of the first stage, all the cars need to be road legal with tax, MOT's and insurance as they travel on the public highway between stages. The best pics I think will be down in the stages around Duns, for some real close up shots, a lot of the cars will be servicing on Newtown Street in Duns this year so yer lad will get real close up to the machinery. If your boy wants to hear the noise of the engine's - he may be in for a treat as the event is planning something a little bit special for everyone who comes down - watch this space for more detail's when I hear it!!! Really hoping to get as many cars there as possible to show support for the event - and also for an excuse for us all to meet up on mass. Cheers Gary Edited December 25, 2008 by rallyfever

rallyfever Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 Hi All, I have e-mailed Colin Pagan (Jim Clark Rally Manager) this morning and asked to meet up with him, or a member of the organising team to see what we could do to support the event, there have been a few suggestions already, one was to have a stage marshalled by SIDC members, another was to have a display of cars at several points on the event to promote the SIDC. I am keen to get as many ideas from members as possible before this meeting, so if you could post any you have here it would be much appreciated. Bear in mind it must be to promote both the SIDC and The Jim Clark Rally, to sell the ideas to Colin he must be able to see a benefit to The Rally. Kind regards Gary

rallyfever Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) Latest Update Been in contact with Colin Pagan (Jim Clark Rally Manager) tonight and arranged a meeting between him, John McBay (SIDC RO Scottish Borders) and myself on the evening of the 20th Jan, the meeting is to discuss what we can do as a group to help promote the SIDC and the Jim Clark Rally. If anyone has any ideas of what they would like us to do over the weekend please add your ideas here before the 20th. The ideas so far have been; SIDC members marshalling a stage of the rally A show of Subaru's at various places, Kelso, Ocean Terminal, Ednburgh and Duns. A convoy of Subaru's through one of the stages after the closing car has come through. Any other ideas please don't be shy - it's gonna be the best Jim Clark for years!!!! Anyone else who would like to add their name to the already growing numbers coming down please also put your name down on the list. Cheers Gary & John Edited January 15, 2009 by rallyfever
