Returning from offshore yesterday driving down the road and i overtake a GT4 about 30secs later

he is behind me :) We go into the 50 and he pulls along side. As we go out of the 50 zone we accelerate hard and i decide this is stupid and stop at the national speed limitish as he continues on accelerating.

I drive along for a couple of minutes then decide to see if i can catch him up guessing he has most likely slowed down.

A couple of minutes later i catch him up. Im maybe 200-300 yards behind him

and it obvious he has seen me and he speeds up. He then notices the speed camera lamps the brakes on

the car goes sideways grips and over it goes then tails lights, headlights, tail lights, headlights and the car cartwheels into a forest.

I stopped ran in and hes climbing out of the car thankfully help him find his shoes check he is ok.

Basically a split head and a few cuts and bruises. He was mostly bothered about his beloved car B)

Phoned the police who turned up very quickly along with an ambulance. They took a statement and i know exactly what they were thinking. My car and a GT4 and an accident at a speed camera B)

If i had not stopped and he was stuck in the car nobody would have seen it. He appreciated me stopping

and i hope somebody would do the same for me.

Just made me think how easily it can happen!!!

Half expecting to hear from the police again as they said they would be in touch. Have i landed myself

in it by helping this guy?

Glad your both ok Ciaran. Doubt the Police can prove anything against you. They may like you say, try and get you to admit to racing.

But the other boy caned it through a speed camera, then lost control of his car. Sounds like he was lucky to get out alive/uninjured.

Doubt you've got much to be worried about. Just tell the cops what you saw. (Accident wise)

Was this on the A90?

With out a doubt you did the right thing. I cant see why they would do you with anything, unless somebody has reported you for racing with him then what proof would they have that you were anything other than the car behind him.

props for stopping and helping the guy out. meny people would of just carried on :) ......

i remember helping some1 out a couple of year ago that rolled his car into the woods on the A702 just out side bigger...i just cought his tailights out the corner of my eye as i went past. (car upside down)..i slamed on the brakes and jumped out (superman mode on lol) ran back..luckly the young lad was just crawling out the car with some cuts and white as a sheet....he could not have thanked me anuff for stoping and helping him out as 4 or 5 cars past the crash and never bother to stop (saying that thay might not have seen him B) ).... other road users did stop but that was for the sheer fact i slammed on the brakes and jummped out my van

The path the car left it looks like he went over the camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Pity he didn't take it out. He says he just hit the brakes and ended up in the forest.

maybe dodgy brakes one working more than the other?

I never raced him we were just both accelerating up to the national Occifer!!

I did about 50mph the whole way down the road after that!!!

You did the right thing stopping, better to get (at worst) a slap on the wrist than have on your conscience the "what if he's not alright" or worse if you found out he ended up not being okay !!

Unless reported by another road user can't see how you'd get in bother. He's not going to say anything as he'll void his insurance and get himself in bother also.

Besides, I think the two of you were driving within the speed limits just checking out acceleration to that speed limit...weren't you !? :)

Your luck you didn't get caught up in his accident! Then it would have been harder to explain!!

My old boss has a similar incident years ago. He was driving home from work a lad in a WRX passed him then proceded to go off a few corners later. Police we're involved and tried to get him on racing, etc.. But they couldn't prove it!

So I would say you'll be ok! If the police come back to you, just don't give 'em any ammo to try and stitch you up! Although if there decent coppers they should be thanking you for stopping!! You did the right thing by helping the guy, even if it was his fault and he was being an idiot!!

For all you knew he could have been in a bad way! and it could have been far more serious!

The Police men did thank me for stopping and helping him out. They never said anything about me being involved in the accident so will hopefully be ok. At the end of the day i wasn't racing and if i was do they think i would have stopped!!

Definately did the right thing in stopping, no arguments there... :)

However, this sort of incident is exactly the reason why I don't "play" with other vehicles on the road, particularly at excessive speed.. Someones bound to get hurt.. Especially if the other driver is not in an Impreza, chances are they are likely to push their vehicle too hard.. Although GT4 is a very competant machine!

Is this an argument for why speed cameras cause accidents B)

Glad to hear driver was ok, shame about the car though GT4 = *drool*

Well done for stopping, a lot of people would have just driven by.

When the other half put his through a hedge last weekend, someone stopped on the lane, laughed and then drove off. Luckily he wasn't trapped and someone else stopped to help.

If we ever find out who it was who stopped and laughed .............. :)

I dont get why anyone would even consider for a second just driving off... it just goes against every thing that I know... I mean, what if someone dies as a result of you just driving off, I would never be able to live with myself for that...
