Typer666 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Hey guys and gals... after about 5k of driving im getting used to the power + delivery of the turbo 2000 4WD and would like to add a few more ponies. Its a 1997 reg turbo 2000 with 63k on the clock. The car already has a 4pot brake upgrade as i know stopping is more important. I will also look into some handling mods to complement the increase in power. The only other performance mod the car has is a magnex catback system. 1997 was the 208bhp model? so with catback it maybe has 215-220bhp? - Im not looking for huge power, maybe 260bhp + some more torque, I want to maintain reliability and not spend a fortune on new engine clutches etc - I absolutely love the surge at 4krpm (would love to be thrown further into my seat) and I dont rev past 5.5k as i feels unecessary strain (limiter is 7 i think) anyone else feel that they never want to rev the car too high?. Anyways - I would like some recommendations/advice as to modifications +costs+installation please. ( im not looking to spend a lot of money maybe about 500?, but I will consider all advice). Thanks in advance.
chrissy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 im sure alot of the guys will give you some good ideas etc but id say a full decat exhaust and a remap by andy f, that should make a fair bit of difference to ya. chrissy
mic Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 (edited) Decat, fuel pump, panel filter and Andy F remap = nice power hike www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk will tell you everything you will need to know, costs, power gains.... and the inevitable "Stage 2" that you'll want when you get bored again Edited December 17, 2008 by mic
Typer666 Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 Hey - Thanks guys... had a look on the website looking at stage 1 260-280BHP Im not very technical minded when it comes to cars so please bare with me, I need: 1) Full Decat or Sportscat exhaust from turbo back 2.5 or 3” bore - I already have a magnex cat back, so which pipes do I required (Just a downpipe or and up-pipe aswell?) also does it have to be a magnex to fit? £around 250 from an eshop 2) Walbro 255 l/hr uprated fuel pump - £70 from ebay 3) K&N Panel filter and resonator delete. - £40 4) Standalone Apexi Power FC Fully Mapable ECU with 4 x Boost/Power settings in-car adjustable -Cheapest I could see was Ebay at £600 ( is this right? ) 5) then I need everything installed and mapped..£550? Can you recommend anywhere around Glasgow that does RR? If I go for stage 1 would like a before and after. Thanks again!
paul555sti Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Speak to Duncan at hypertech and he will sort you out.
Spaceman Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Gus the bus will sort you out with a decat downpipe for a lot cheaper than 250 as for the power fc pick up a second hand one here or on scoobynet or speak to andy im sure he supplys and maps for cheaper than that. Greig
RS Grant Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The downpipe is likely to be a 3" item that tapers down to 2.5" at the flange... and it will bolt directly to the Magnex centre section you have got. As said, Gus The Bus will hook you up with this and a few of the guys on here use his exhaust parts without any hassle. You dont NEED to upgrade your intercooler, however, at the age it is and from a safety point of view; I think it might be worth upgrading. You have various options here, really depends what you are able to spend and if you want a front mount peeking through your front bumper or want to keep it stock looking with a top mount intercooler. The 97-98 requires a complete ECU to be fitted and mapped and the Apexi is the tried and tested route to take.. and AndyF knows his way around it better than anyone. Cheers, Grant
Spaceman Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 check the general for sale in sidc been told there is 2 apexi ecu`s for sale make sure you get the commander with it too Greig
